ONAs joins with Digital Journalism Forum Tokyo 2016 March 11-12
Digital Journalism Forum Tokyo 2016, to be held in conjunction with the Japan Center of Education for Journalist’s Journalism Innovation Award exhibit, will provide opportunities to discuss and share thoughts about the direction, style and future of the ever-changing media and journalism industry.
The Executive Committee of the Digital Journalism Forum Tokyo 2016 announced it would hold a two-day conference March 11-12 in cooperation with the Online News Association (ONA), the world’s largest association of online journalists. The goal of the conference will be to inspire journalists to innovate and collaborate to produce excellent journalism.
The media environment has been drastically changing. The digitization of media, the penetration of mobile devices, and other innovations have massively transformed the way content is created and delivered on a global scale.
Digital Journalism Forum Tokyo 2016 will allow media professionals from many organizations and at all levels to discuss and share ideas about the direction, style and future of this ever-changing landscape. Speakers will include top journalists, engineers and media-related corporate executives from both within and outside Japan.

The Online News Association (ONA) and the Poynter Institute are now accepting applications for the 2016 ONA-Poynter Leadership Academy for Women in Digital Media, a transformative, tuition-free leadership program to train digital media’s best and brightest women.
The week-long program will provide training and networking opportunities to 28 emerging women leaders selected from the applicant pool. Led by prominent women leaders in the startup, tech, media and academic fields, faculty will include Amy O’Leary, editorial director of Upworthy; Jennifer Brandel, founder and CEO of Hearken, and Sisi Wei, investigative journalist and full-stack developer at ProPublica.
The academy, held the week of May 1 at The Poynter Institute in St. Petersburg, Fla., will focus on leadership skills, digital project management strategies and best practices in management. Interactive training sessions will include 1-1 mentoring, outstanding networking and a supportive cohort of talented peers.

We’re delighted to introduce Michelle Baruchman, who will serve as ONA’s first Student Representative to the Board of Directors. In this appointed role, Michelle will be a voice for our student members, advising the Board and staff on how to better serve student journalists. Her two-year, nonvoting appointment will begin Jan. 1, 2016.
Michelle is a junior at the University of Georgia, double majoring in Digital Broadcast Journalism and International Affairs. She is also pursuing a certificate in New Media. She currently reports, produces and anchors for her class broadcast program, Grady FiveSeventy, and will continue refining her video production and editing skills for Grady Newsource, WUGA-TV, a live news show broadcast on local television.
