Our Vision

We envision a community that is empowered to sustainably grow, eat, provide, and promote healthy, local foods.

We work with Omaha area residents and volunteers to grow vegetables, flowers, and herbs using environmentally responsible and sustainable gardening techniques. We provide a comfortable setting where people of diverse ages and backgrounds can work outside together.

Our larger vision is to work with the community to build local food systems, improve community health, empower neighborhoods, and strengthen economic viability and sustainability. Over the years, City Sprouts has helped establish community and family gardens at various Omaha neighborhoods, such as Gifford Park, Leavenworth, and at churches, community centers, and neighborhoods. In addition to improving food quality and security, neighborhood gardens enhance community identity and pride. According to many studies, recreational gardening confers significant health benefits.

Our Goals

Increase availability of fresh and locally grown produce in our community
Educate the community about gardening and sustainability
Provide employment opportunities
Build community through gardening

Events & Workshops

We are proud to offer a variety of workshops for all skill levels and ages. Our workshops provide valuable knowledge spanning from canning and naturally preserving fruits and vegetables to learning how to maintain your garden all the way through the growing process. The intention of each workshop is to provide the community with self-sustaining knowledge and health tips to help direct people to think about fruits and vegetables in an all new way.Learn more ››
