Iridium satellite phone time settings should be modified after March 3, 2015 in order to display the correct date and time.

Iridium GO! devices
will handle the time change automatically and do not require reprogramming.

Iridium 9555 and Iridium Extreme® customers can restore the correct time settings by following these steps:

  1. Dial *#99#2014051114235500#
  2. Press the green key
  3. Turn off/on their phone

Iridium 9500, 9505 and 9505A customers will need to set the updated time and date from their phone menu.

The extended phone set‐up menu must be set to “On” (see page 137 of Iridium 9505A user guide, page 149 of

the Iridium 9500 user guide, or page 139 of the Iridium 9505 user guide), then follow these instructions to set

END OF LIFE FOR AERO-H IN DECEMBER 2016

Inmarsat plans to close Inmarsat Aero-H at the end of 2016. The decision to retire Inmarsat Aero-H is based on:

  • The expected end of life of the Inmarsat-3 satellites;
  • The decision to migrate Aeronautical safety services to SwiftBroadband (SB);
  • Our commitment to the SB-Safety program, including network and equipment availability, and certification timeline;
  • The relative spectral inefficiency of Aero-H, which runs counter to ITU and national Radio Agencies drive for efficient use of radio spectrum.

Aero-H is ICAO-approved for safety services hence we wish to provide 5 years’ notice for service closure. Aero-H users have the choice of upgrading existing Aero-H avionics to Aero-H+ or migrating to SwiftBroadband services, including the SB-Safety services under development, if so desired.

SwiftBroadband Safety: As part of its ongoing commitment to Aeronautical safety services, Inmarsat has initiated the SB-Safety program to enhance SwiftBroadband to support voice and data safety services in Oceanic airspace such that it can meet (and exceed) the FANS Safety and Performance Requirements (SPR). This activity leverages the existing terrestrial network infrastructure and traffic routing arrangements in place for Classic Safety Services, mapping these services across to SwiftBroadband and adding priority and pre-emption methods to ensure ATM traffic can pass unhindered through the SwiftBroadband system irrespective of commercial traffic load. Inmarsat envisages flight trials starting in early 2013 leading to safety certification during 2014.

For users of safety services, Inmarsat will, over the next five years, undertake a successful transition from Aero-H services to the SwiftBroadband platform where the introduction of safety functionality is a priority.

END OF LIFE FOR INMARSAT B AND INMARSAT M ON 30DECEMBER2014

On 30 December 2014, Inmarsat will cease all services provided by Inmarsat B, including all GMDSS distress functionality from the terminal. We have agreed this cessation date with the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).

When Inmarsat B is retired, the service will have been in existence for over 20 years. Inmarsat made this decision based on information from channel partners and market assessments; in summary, this decision is principally driven by considerations around:

  • The vast majority of vessels with Inmarsat B will have reached the end of their economic life
  • Inmarsat B terminals are no longer available
  • Spares and service support are increasingly scarce for the Inmarsat B terminals
  • Three FleetBroadband (FB) variants are currently available and well established with global service
  • FleetBroadband offers a greatly enhanced proposition to end-users
  • Inmarsat intends to provide circuit- and packet-switched safety services on all FleetBroadband platforms

Over the coming years, Inmarsat will continue to transition Inmarsat B customers to the FleetBroadband platform where the introduction of GMDSS functionality is a priority.

Inmarsat M – Maritime: As communicated previously, Inmarsat M will also be retired on 30 December 2014.

ISAT M2M SERVICE CONTINUATION

Inmarsat advises that it will continue to support its ISATM2M service at least until December 2018. This provides long-term stability and guarantees that critical IsatM2M services, currently provided via the Inmarsat-3 constellation, can become available to all ISAT M2M customers until at least 2018 by allowing for IsatM2M services to be provided on the I4 satellites should the need arise. A transition from the current I3 satellites to the I4 satellites would be done by making changes to the network itself, and should not require any physical changes to existing terminals in the field.

INMARSAT GAN RETIREMENT ON 30DECEMBER2014

Inmarsat will retire the GAN service on 30 September 2014.Since the introduction of BGAN services in the land mobile sector in 2005, we have a seen a rapid take-up of the service, with a corresponding decline in GAN traffic. BGAN offers higher speeds, cost effective and flexible tariffs and superior quality service, all through smaller and lighter terminals. This period of notice will enable you, both financially and operationally, for the measured migration from GAN to BGAN services.

INMARSAT mini-M MARITIME RETIREMENT ON 30DECEMBER2016

Following the rapid uptake in FleetBroadband, the introduction of the FleetPhone service and based on our current understanding of customer requirements, Inmarsat has consulted with key stakeholders on a proposed closure date for Maritime Mini-M. With the need for long term service planning for the maritime community we believe it appropriate to provide a retirement notification for the mini-M Maritime service at this time and that a five year notice is appropriate.

Inmarsat therefore intends to retire the mini-M maritime service on 30 December of 2016.

INMARSAT D+ RETIREMENT ON 30DECEMBER2014

With the availability of the IsatM2M and the IsatData Pro services, Inmarsat advises that the withdrawal date for the D+ service will be 30th December 2014.

Inmarsat will continue to work with its partners to affect the migration of D+ services to IsatM2M or other suitable alternatives.
