  • Our Halal Certification

The halal requirement is essentially the way food is processed and prepared, otherwise known as lawful and permitted according to Islamic law. In essence, it points towards a way of life that is pure and clean. The concept of halal can be said to extend far beyond a religious choice and spills into boundaries of appearance, taste, texture and nutritional qualities as benchmarks.

Our priority is to ensure that consumers know, if a product has the Brunei Halal label and it has passed through the most stringent safety checks at every step of the supply chain to meet – and exceed – consumer expectations. Halal market consumers can have the confidence every time the Brunei Halal brand is present on a product. In food manufacturing facilities across the globe, our team of Halal and Quality Control Auditors carry out inspections of the plant, the processes and of course the product itself to ensure compliance. Only those that meet the standards of halal, high quality and safety will be awarded the Brunei Halal certification label.

  • Our Process

Brunei Halal’s certification status is supported by a system of having a single accreditation body in Brunei Darussalam under the Ministry of Religious Affairs, which acts independently of any commercial entity. There are also additional requirements to possess the necessary food safety standards.

The Brunei Halal label serves as a halal certification for assurance on halal products, and the audit process includes adequacy audits, on-site audits and surveillance audits. It also requires annual renewal of halal certification, and is certified by the Brunei Religious Council. This Council is made up of a panel of scholars and are the highest level of approval required for the Brunei Halal certification.

The process of accreditation is structured so that manufacturing and branding certifications work in tandem. Only those that meet the standards of halal, high quality and safety will be awarded the Brunei Halal certification label and consequently, the Brunei Halal brand logo accompanied with creative direction on packaging and design labelling before its release into the market.

  • How Can Manufacturers Carry The Brunei Halal Brand

Manufacturers are welcome to apply for the marketing and trading of their products under the Brunei Halal brand, subject to the following:

    • All companies apply for the Brunei Halal religious accreditation facilitated by Brunei Wafirah Holdings.
    • All manufacturers are required to have the relevant safety standards, such as HACCP and ISO for food.
    • Manufacturers are then welcome to apply for the Brunei Halal commercial brand.

All products will then be marketed and promoted by Brunei Wafirah Holdings under the Brunei Halal brand.

FAQ

  • What is the difference between the Brunei Halal accreditation stamp (purple logo) and the commercial Brunei Halal brand logo that is shown on products?

Manufacturers get awarded the Brunei Halal accreditation stamp when they have met the standards required by the Brunei Islamic Religious Council. Only inspectors from the Brunei Islamic Religious Council are authorized to accredit companies and products. The Brunei Halal accreditation stamp can be found on the front of products together with the Brunei Halal brand logo.

Brunei Halal is managed and promoted as a 'Private Label Brand'. It is an initiative formed by the government of Brunei Darussalam to create opportunities for Brunei investments in other countries and also it opens doors for overseas corporations and manufacturers to invest in Brunei.

This is the commercial aspect of the brand, whereby the brand logo will be used on all packaging and promotional material specifically related to Brunei Halal.

Foreign manufacturers must receive the Brunei Halal accreditation stamp as a prerequisite for private-labelling under the Brunei Halal brand.

While it is tough for food providers to earn the green mark, consumers will find it easy to instantly identify halal, safety and quality with the distinctive Brunei Halal accreditation stamp (purple logo).

Furthermore, Brunei Halal religious marque cannot be used in manufacturers’ own branded products. They must be marketed and promoted under the Brunei Halal brand in order to carry the Brunei Halal religious marque.
