NOLA Fetes Demon Who Visits the Night Before St. Nick

spacer

Krampus is the stuff of nightmares. His name is derived from the German word Krampen, or to claw, and the night before Nikolaustag (Saint Nick’s Day) the beast creeps into town and beats the children into being nice. Of course, New Orleans will be feting this anti-hero with a mini-fest on December 5.

Weather for Weekend, Krewe du Vieux

spacer

Naming winter storms is all the rage these days! While New Orleanians would normally have lots to say about that, right now, most locals are focused on what “Jonas” means for us this weekend, specifically, what does it mean for Krewe du Vieux. The short answer is that the skies will be clear by the parade, but it won’t be warm.

LeBlanc & Bodenheimer Team Up for a Cause

spacer

A pair of local restauranteurs are hosting a fundraiser, and there will not be beaux-arts theaters or large foundations involved. Instead, Robert LeBlanc (LeBlanc & Smith) and Neil Bodenheimer (CureCo) are doing what they do best, throwing a party with great food and cocktails, to help a child battling Leukemia.

Shakedown Street

It’s easy to associate Krewe du Vieux with their satire alone. (A parade renowned for their giant penises can have that effect). Still, KdV does a lot of good for the community. On Thursday (1.21), krewe members and an entourage of Naughty Nurses will hit up local businesses for donations to the New Orleans Musicians' Clinic (NOMC).

Krewe du Vieux Details Emerge

Krewe du Vieux is less than a week away. While last year’s “Disneylandrieu” float will be hard to top, the first big parade of the season rarely disappoints. Now, some details of the parade along with many of the sub-krewe’s individual themes are out.

Carnival is not lacking in traditions. Some are hallowed and others a bit more abstract. And, then there is the process of lubing up the metal poles on Bourbon. Today, the Royal Sonesta (300 Bourbon Street) announced that the annual Greasing off the Poles is set for February 5th at 10a.m.
