LPR’s Premier Autocross Program

spacer Autocross is the perfect place to share your driving enthusiasm while safely taking your Porsche and your skills to their limits.

LPR’s autocross program is held at Marina Airport. Our AX team sets up challenging courses outlined by orange plastic cones on the tarmac. The goal is to run the course in the shortest time possible.  Every run is timed electronically with one second added for each cone tipped over. Drivers can measure their progress throughout the day, and enjoy some spirited but friendly competition.

Autocross is also a driver education class; there are qualified instructors available at each event to help you learn how to best approach the course.

LPR Proudly Presents….

“The Autocross Driving Experience”

Modeled after PCA’s Taste of the Track/Track Sampler program, you are now able to experience autocross, by riding along with an Instructor for a hot lap around an autocross course at any one of our regularly scheduled autocrosses.spacer

You must be of legal age, have signed a waiver and for nominal charge of $5.00, you will be able to be in the passenger seat with one our fantastic instructors, as they take a ‘run’ for time.

If you have always wanted to give AX a try, but didn’t want to get behind the wheel here’s the way to “Experience Autocross”.

Autocross Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Where does LPR hold its AX events?

A: AX is held at the Marina Airport. Registration is between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m., however it’s a good idea to be early to get your car ready for Tech Inspection, walk the course and help out.

Q: Who can participate?

A: The events are open to PCA members from any region as well as non-member Porsche owners. Must be a licensed driver. Drivers under 18 require additional release forms signed by parents. Other marques with prior permission only.  Contact AX Chair, Anne Roth at 408-710-0547 or alroth@sbcglobal.net

Q: Do I need to attend a school first?

A: No, Autocross is the perfect first-time event and AX instructors are available at the event.

Q: How much does it cost?

A: $35.00 – $45.00 per driver. LPR encourages drivers to pre-register on Motorsportsreg.com.

Q: What should I bring?

A: In Marina, it’s often cold in the morning but can get sunny and warm toward mid-day so wear comfortable layered clothes. You’ll need shoes suitable for driving/walking/running, water, a hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses. If you have an Auto(SA), Motorcycle(MX) or Karting(K) helmet, Snell 2005 or better, bring it. If you don’t have a helmet, we have a limited number of loaners. You will need a Driver’s License as a deposit. A deli lunch can be ordered at registration.

Q: How do I prepare my car?

A: Your Porsche should be in good mechanical condition. No cord showing on the tires, brakes in good condition, no loose wheel bearings or other loose parts. Check your oil and inflate your tires according to your owner’s manual. Ideally, show up with 3/8 tank gas, more is okay, but it’s extra weight. Your car will have to pass a Tech Inspection before you are allowed to race.

Q: What do I do when I arrive?

A: Go to the registration table and let them know you are new. They will get you going and point you in the right direction.

Q: What do we do in case of rain?

A: We get wet! Die-hard autocrossers will run even if there is a light rain. Only when there is standing water, and the track has been deemed unsafe do we clear the track and wait for the puddles to dry up.

Q: Do we drive with windows up or down?

A: LPR rules require that ALL cars run with windows down.

Q: Can I let my friends drive with me?

A: For insurance purposes, if there are two passengers in a vehicle, one of them MUST be an LPR instructor. However, friends can take advantage of LPRs Autocross Driving Experience Program.

Q: How do I qualify for an award?

A: To qualify for an award you must attend half of the season’s events and your car must be classed (we can help you class your car at your first AX). At each event, within each class, the top time is awarded 10 points, the second is awarded 8 points, third place receives 6, fourth gets 5 and fifth gets 4. Points are totaled at the end of the season. Awards are presented at the Annual LPR Awards Banquet in December.
