National Sovereignty and Security
“To be prepared for war is one of the most effectual means of preserving peace.” – George Washington
A free people will not survive unless they stay strong. Throughout American history, it has been shown that our defensive strength has allowed us to remain free. Sometimes we have had to employ military power to preserve our freedom; sometimes our military power has acted as a deterrent to attacks on our freedom—probably sometimes without our even knowing it.
Even in the face of overwhelming evidence to this effect, anti-American extremists have continually sought to undermine and erode America’s military might and they’ve already seen many successes through various deceitful movements.
At the same time, when international military and diplomatic intervention have been necessary, the same activists have eschewed American leadership in favor of relying on international organizations like the United Nations. In advocating such solutions, they have suggested relinquishing authority over American troops to foreign command. Implicit in such abdication of responsibility for our own troops is the adoption of foreign values and foreign objectives. This stands in direct opposition to the views of the founders and to the positions that led to the establishment of our nation.
To remain strong in the future, we must reassert traditional American values in foreign policy, commit ourselves to becoming involved in international affairs only when clear American national interests are threatened, and avoid unnecessary alliances with foreign governments.
“Peace, commerce, and honest friendship with all nations — entangling alliances with none.” – Thomas Jefferson
