School of Performing Arts Director Search

The University of Central Florida seeks a dynamic, energetic, innovative leader to direct its newly established School of Performing Arts. The School of Performing Arts is to be a synergistic integration of the current Departments of Music and Theatre. The director will provide leadership in developing the School’s collaborative governance structure, integrating existing departmental visions, and advancing the performing arts at UCF to increased national and international prominence.

Responsibilities: Candidates should demonstrate a passion and vision for the performing arts and represent/advocate that passion and vision within the university as well as to local, national, and international constituencies; provide collaborative, academic, and administrative leadership for performing arts students, faculty, and staff in achieving their artistic goals; actively collaborate with the UCF Foundation in a capital campaign to complete the design and construction of the performance venues phase of the new Performing Arts Center; provide strong fiscal stewardship for the continued growth and development of the school.

Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must currently hold the rank of professor with tenure in a performing arts discipline in the College of Arts and Humanities at the University of Central Florida. Substantive administrative and leadership experience in the performing arts is required. The ability to function successfully and collaboratively in academic and external community environments is a must.

Preferred Qualifications: In addition to the minimum qualifications, this job requires success in fund-raising for the arts.

The current Departments of Music and Theatre collectively house 14 bachelors and masters programs (BA, BM, BME, MA in Music and BA, BFA, MA, MFA in Theatre), over 80 faculty and staff, and over 700 students majoring in the performing arts. UCF performing arts faculty and students have a strong record of activity and recognition nationally and internationally. Ongoing professional partnerships include the Orlando Repertory Theatre, the Orlando Shakespeare Theater, and the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra. In August 2010 the Departments of Music and Theatre moved into a new $25M office, classroom, and rehearsal complex that is the first phase of a planned larger facility that will provide multiple performance venues and support spaces.
