The SUNSTAR Music Festival is KST’s biennial festival in honor of Women’s History Month celebrating the best of women in music with a three-day lineup of concerts, parties, talks, and more, SUNSTAR showcases the vibrancy and diversity of independent female artists. In addition to concerts and special events, the festival includes workshops for young women who are interested in the creative process of the performing arts.
Past performers have included Grammy Award-winning Carolina Chocolate Drops and author Rebecca Walker, named one of Time magazine’s 50 most influential American leaders under 40. SUNSTAR has been host to NYC composer Simita Sinha, singer/songwriter Bridgette Perdue, poets Christina Springer and Kelli Stevens Kane and local artists Dr. Goddess, Kaitlin Hunter of Dreams of Hope, Kellee Maize, Shaina Wallace of Hip-Hop on L.O.C.K., SolSis, Stacyee Pearl, Bhangra Bash with DJ Rekha and the Alumni Theater Company.
Thursday, March 12 :: anonymous bodies + RYAT An interdisciplinary stage show integrating dance, 3D animation, sensor-based interactive mapping, and a live instrumental set.
Friday, March 13 :: Sunstars in the Making Live performances by up-and-coming young women in music.
Saturday, March 14 :: Tribute to Women in Music Dynamic vocalists own the stage, capture the audience, and deliver the song like no one else.
