Multidisciplinary Research Clusters

UCF’s Faculty Cluster Initiative leverages our diverse talent, facilities, location and industry partnerships to fosters the development of strong, interdisciplinary teams focused on solving today’s toughest scientific and societal challenges through teaching and research. In its inaugural year, the Faculty Cluster Initiative is adding 33 new faculty members in the fields of Cyber Security & Privacy, Energy Conversion & Propulsion, Genomics & Bioinformatics, Prosthetic Interfaces, Renewable Energy Systems and Sustainable Coastal Systems to advance UCF’s unique areas of excellence and global impact.

Serving our students

UCF professors engage students in their projects, giving them invaluable experience in the laboratory and in their chosen fields. The Office of Undergraduate Research and the Venture Lab create ideal environments for students, faculty and entrepreneurs to collaborate on research and provide business solutions.

Research funding

UCF researchers attract more than $100 million annually. These dollars help to strengthen and diversify the local and state economy. Last year, a record $122 million came from federal, state and industry partners.

UCF professors help and work side-by-side with the community on joint projects—from helping underprivileged children to read to developing alternative energy solutions.

A force for economic change

The Business Incubator provides young companies with the tools they need to become stable and high-growth enterprises. The Incubator has helped create more than 900 jobs, more than $170 million of investment and $200 million annually of business booked by client companies. The Technology Transfer office moves university technologies to the business sector.

Neighbors and partners

Many of the 10,000 employees in Research Park work with UCF researchers and students on projects in the sciences, engineering, photonics and optics, modeling and simulation, and health-related fields. The Florida High Tech Corridor spans 23 counties and attracts and retains technology industries and the workforce that supports them in Central Florida.
