FAIRWINDS Partners With UCF to Raise Money for New Police Dog

The University of Central Florida Police Department is getting a helping “paw” from FAIRWINDS Credit Union, which is participating in the community effort to raise $50,000 for a new K-9 dog.

FAIRWINDS, the university’s student banking services provider, will host a fundraising breakfast from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Wednesday, March 27, at its UCF branch in the John T. Washington Center.

For a $5 donation, attendees can enjoy breakfast while interacting with UCF officers and police dogs. The entire donation will go directly to the police department, and FAIRWINDS has led the charge with a $500 donation.

Funds raised will go toward the purchase and training of a new police dog, as well as the retrofit of a police vehicle to accommodate the dog. UCF currently has three K-9 dogs, and a fourth will add to efforts to keep the UCF community safe by detecting explosives and tracking missing people and suspects.

“The university growth in both population and physical buildings has increased calls for service by UCF Police, often requiring the use of K-9s in reactive and proactive searches,” said Maj. Randall Mingo.

FAIRWINDS also will collect donations at all of its 38 locations. Locations nearest to UCF will raise funds by offering those who donate $1 a “Paws for a Cause” paper paw print that can be written on and displayed at the branches.

Donations can also be made online at www.eventbrite.com/event/5818981731#.
