What is the Leonard Shale? The Leonard Shale is
an Oil & Gas field located in New Mexico & Texas and is part of the Permian Basin. The Leonard Shale is the same as the Avalon Shale but is given It's name because of the age of the shale rock, Leonardian
in age. There are many companies that will reference the Leonard Shale and there are many companies that will reference
the Avalon Shale. Check out my Avalon Shale page for company updates.
There is massive activity going on right now in the Permian
Basin and the Leonard Shale is heating up in New Mexico. Eddy County New Mexico, Chaves County New Mexico, and Lea County
New Mexico are seeing the most action but as this oil shale play develops, I think we will see it extend into additional counties.
The Permian Basin is made up of the Spraberry Trend, The Wolfcamp Shale, the Bone Spring Shale, and the Avalon & Leonard Shale.
New Technology such as Horizontal Drilling
and various new Frac techniques are enabling oil & natural gas companies to reach more zones efficiently which is why
we are seeing so many areas discovered. Higher oil prices are causing companies to explore every possible zone on their
acreage.
