Heathers

One of the most obscure, embedded nuggets of coolness in the script of this movie is the Eskimo reference from Moby Dick. JD says, "Eskimo. It's one word. I usually go for the whole sentence myself, but, that's perfecto." Little known is the fact that the language of the esquimeaux (as Melville spells it) is polysynthetic, meaning the sentences are composed by combining component words to make one big word. So in Eskimo language, all sentences are one word. This language form is seen also in Scandinavia (Norse, Icelandic).

More Trivia from Heathers
In 1989, a movie like no other hit theatres in the USA.

This was a dark comedy. An instant 'Cult Classic' ...and has inspired such great films as "Jawbreaker" & "Teaching Mrs. Tingle".

This Films name, as if you dont already know, is Heathers.

Veronica Sawyer has three major problems in her life and each one goes by the name of Heather. You see Veronica is one of the popular kids and yet she doesnt want to be. Veronica works for the Heathers doing odd jobs for them... y'know, forging notes and letters.

But Veronica, deep down, hates the Heathers and wishes they were dead. This is the main plot that continues through the entire movie. The only good thing Veronica has is her diary. That is until Veronica meets the new guy at school...His name is Jason Dean and he has that James Dean "Rebel Without a Cause" kinda feel.

Of course, Veronica falls instantly in love with Jason. The only problem is that Jason is a Clyde looking for his Bonnie and soon he convinces Veronica that she should assume the role. Jason gives Veronica what she has hoped for, the death of the head Heather. But as soon as one Heather dies another assumes the role. Is there no end to Veronicas problems?

With the Heathers dropping like flies, teen suicide becomes all the rage at Westerberg High. So with the student body getting smaller and smaller and Veronica having a hand in each death she starts to think "Is this what I really wanted?" The only way to it, is to end things with Jason.

Is this the end to Veronicas problems or only the beginning?

This is a question that can only be answered by watching this fabulous dark comedy and may you enjoy it as much as I have...

Verdict?

Since the movie Beetlejuice I have loved Winona Ryder. So Heathers was an instant favorite of mine. But Winona wasn't the only reason that I loved this film. It has so much to it.

I mean, have you ever wondered what it would be like to knock off the popular kids? I guess that is kind of Morbid, but I also think a lot of kids have thought about it.

Heathers, on top of it all, is a great comedy. It makes me laugh with all of its sarcastic wit. Even when it is all over it makes you think about it. That makes an excellent film in my eyes and hopefully you might agree with me.

So, next time you want a good teen film, remember Heathers might be the film for you. It is for me!
