    Maro Chermayeff, Executive Producer and Director
    Show of Force

    Maro Chermayeff is an award-winning filmmaker, producer, director, author and former television executive at A&E/AETN. She is Founder and Chair of the MFA program in Social Documentary at the School of Visual Arts in New York City and partner in the production company Show of Force. Some of her extensive credits include: 6x series Circus (PBS, 2010), Marina Abramović: The Artist is Present (HBO, 2012) Mann v. Ford (HBO, 2011), Parasomnia (France 2, 2010), the Emmy Award-winning 10x series Carrier (PBS/Nat Geo International, 2008), the 6x series Frontier House (PBS, 2002), American Masters: Juilliard (PBS, 2003), The Kindness of Strangers (HBO, 1999), Role Reversal (A&E 2002), Trauma, Life in the ER (TLC, 2001) and over 15 specials for Charlie Rose. Represented by CAA, Chermayeff is a principal of Show of Force, the production entity for the Half the Sky Movement. She is an Executive Producer of Half the Sky Movement's Facebook Game and 3x Mobile Games with Games for Change.

    Jamie Gordon, Executive Producer
    Fugitive Films 

    Jamie Gordon co-founded Fugitive Films in 2005. Her company produced Coach starring Hugh Dancy and the comedy Wedding Daze starring Jason Biggs. Among other projects, she is developing Grlzradio, a TV project about girls' empowerment. Previously, Gordon was the Head of Development for GreeneStreet Films, working on In the Bedroom, and worked as a story editor for producer Wendy Finerman where she worked on Forrest Gump. Gordon has produced independent features including swimfan, Pinero, Chicago Cab and Certain Guys. She graduated with a B.A. in history from Princeton University.

    Mikaela Beardsley, Executive Producer and NGO videos director

    Working in close collaboration with the authors, Mikaela Beardsley originated the Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide project after producing the Emmy-nominated Reporter: A Film with Nicholas D. Kristof. She has worked in film and television production since 1993, and has made films with Alex Gibney, Martin Scorsese and Wim Wenders. Beardsley began her television career at WGBH in Boston, and holds a BA in comparative literature from Princeton University.

    Jeff Dupre, Executive Producer
    Show of Force

    Jeff Dupre has been producing and directing documentary films for over 15 years. Together with Show of Force partner Maro Chermayeff, Dupre is director, creator and executive producer of Circus, a six-part documentary series that premiered on PBS. He conceived and is producer and co-director of Marina Abramović The Artist is Present. He is a producer of Carrier and Michael Kantor’s Broadway: The American Musical. Dupre’s directorial debut, Out of the Past, won the Audience Award for Best Documentary at the 1998 Sundance Film Festival, among other awards.

    Joshua Bennett, Producer

    With over 10 years experience producing film and television, Joshua Bennett  has produced shoots in over 35 countries and on all seven continents. He has produced programming for PBS, HBO, MTV, Discovery, A&E and The Sundance Channel, as well as music videos commercials, independent shorts, experimental works, corporate, new media and viral media campaigns.  Bennett teaches documentary producing at New York City’s School of Visual Arts’ master’s program for social documentary film.

    Mira Chang, Series Producer

    Mira Chang is a producer, director and director of photography of nonfiction content for domestic and international television and several feature length documentaries. Her work can be seen regularly on ABC, National Geographic, A&E and Discovery. Her projects include Sold and Jesus Camp, nominated for a 2007 Oscar for Best Documentary. Recent projects include A&E’s Runaway Squad and Garo Unleashed for the Sundance Channel. Currently, Chang is series-producing the landmark four-hour PBS documentary series Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide.

    Michelle Ferrari, Writer

    Michelle Ferrari has been creating innovative, critically acclaimed documentary narratives for over a decade. She is perhaps best known for the highly-rated Seabiscuit, which earned Ferrari a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Writing. Additional credits include the Emmy-nominated PBS series Reporting America at War and Out of the Past, winner of the Sundance Film Festival’s Audience Award. Ferrari also has served as story editor and creative advisor on scores of independent feature documentaries, including Marina Abramović: The Artist is Present

    Rachel Koteen, Co-Producer

    Prior to working with Show of Force, Rachel Koteen was an associate producer on several projects for David Grubin Productions, including the Poetry Everywhere Series. While there she was also the production coordinator for the PBS documentary The Buddha. She has an extensive background as a researcher and has worked on political and issue campaigns.

    Donna Shepherd, Editor

    Donna Shepherd is currently editing Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide, a four-hour special for PBS and ITVS and just completed work on Marina Abramović: The Artist is Present, premiering on HBO in 2012. She has been editing films for 20 years, including the Emmy-winning 10-part series Carrier for PBS; the six-part series Circus for PBS; and the Emmy-winning Bravo series Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List. She is on the editing faculty of the master’s degree in social documentary program at the School of Visual Arts in New York City.

    Howard Sharp, Editor

    Howard Sharp edited documentaries in the U.K. for the BBC and C4 before coming to the United States in the early 1990s. Here he has worked on many award-winning PBS shows, including American Experience, Frontline, Wide Angle and Nova. Before Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide, he worked on the series Carrier and Circus for Show of Force.

    Robert Hanna, Director of Photography

    Robert Hanna has photographed numerous award-winning documentaries, including productions by National Geographic, the Discovery Channel, NOVA and the BBC. His film credits include the PBS shows Circus and Carrier; Sundance’s American Teen; NOVA’s Lord of the Ants (about biologist E. O. Wilson); Discovery’s Galapagos: Beyond Darwin; NBC’s Lost Civilizations; and BBC’s series on the DEA. He codirected Live From a Shark Cage and an episode of Moments in Time, both for the Discovery Channel.

    Liriel Higa, Director of Social Media

    Liriel Higa leads Half the Sky Movement’s social media initiative to inspire, educate and activate fans worldwide. Whether you got hooked on Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn’s message through the pages of a book, television, the Web or your mobile device, Higa wants to help you use social media to connect with and join the inspiring individuals and communities who are driving a movement. A Princeton University graduate, Higa previously was a reporter at Congressional Quarterly and runs the @iDiplomacy Twitter handle.

    Wolfgang Held, Director of Photography

    German-born Wolfgang Held has been working as director of photography in New York City since the mid-1990s. He photographed Sacha Baron Cohen’s hit comedy Brüno and his work on the PBS documentary series Carrier won him an Emmy for Best Cinematography in 2008. Held has photographed over 20 narrative feature films, including Floating, for which he was awarded the Best Cinematography prize at the New England Film Festival, The Tic Code by director Gary Winick and Rob Morrow’s directorial debut Maze, starring Laura Linney.

    Ross Kauffman, Director of Photography -- Video Modules

    Ross Kauffman is the director, producer, cinematographer and co-editor of Born into Brothels, winner of the 2005 Academy Award for Best Documentary. Other projects include award-winning feature documentary In a Dream (executive producer) and Academy Award-nominated Postergirl (consulting producer). In 2001, Kauffman formed Red Light Films, a New York based production company specializing in narrative and documentary films. Currently, he is working on a variety of projects, including E-Team, Wait for Me and Boy Boy Girl Girl.

    Dan Gilbert, Post Production Supervisor 

    Dan Gilbert has a decade of experience working in post production. Previous projects include Marina Abramović: The Artist is PresentArchitecture SchoolSesame StreetTeen Mom and various other projects for Discovery Channel, MTV and A&E. He is thrilled and honored to be involved in Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide. A graduate of NYU's Tisch School of the Arts with a B.F.A. in acting, he much prefers the other side of the camera and the chance to work with his amazing post production team.

    Jessica Chermayeff, Associate Producer

    Before working on Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide, Jessica Chermayeff was the executive assistant at the Santa Monica Museum of Art in Los Angeles. She collaborated on several projects in Los Angeles, including the films The Owls and The Light in Her Eyes, as well as Boomgen Studios’ online content for boomgen.tv.

    Francois Huyghe, New Media Strategist

    François Huyghe uses design, video, and innovative social media initiatives to promote Half the Sky Movement initiatives like the broadcast of the documentary series and the Facebook game. He is also working on research and story development for upcoming Show of Force films. Prior to his work with the Half the Sky Movement team, he worked on several films in France and Australia after completing a master's degree in production management.

    Lizzie Presser, Researcher and Engagement Coordinator

    Lizzie Presser does research and story development for upcoming projects. In 2012, she launched Half the Sky Movement’s campus ambassador program and she continues to work on its implementation. Before joining the Half the Sky Movement team, she co-founded and co-edited a bilingual online newspaper in Northeast Thailand that focuses on regional development, human rights and politicsShe graduated from Princeton University in 2010.

    Renée Muza, Outreach and Engagement Coordinator

    Renée Muza leads Half the Sky Movement's community ambassador program, activating and engaging on-the-ground organizers on key issues relating to women and girls' empowerment. Prior to Show of Force, Renée was a Public Service Scholar fellow at Siecus, and a communications intern at Open Society Foundations. She graduated from Hunter College with honors in sociology and English literature.

    Eugenie Rosenthal, Marketing and Outreach Consultant

    Eugenie Rosenthal is working with colleges and universities to spread the Half the Sky Movement far and wide while advising the team generally on marketing and social media strategy. She was previously executive director of Let's Get Ready, a student-driven education nonprofit and has worked in strategy and marketing for technology and media companies in India and the San Francisco Bay Area. She holds an MBA from Stanford focused on marketing and international development.

    Carter Little, Executive Music Producer

    Carter Little is a music supervisor and parter with 35Sound based in New York, Los Angeles and Nashville.  HIs recent credits include PBS's Circus (2010) and Half the Sky (2012), Amnesty International's 50th Anniversary Celebration (2011), General Motor's Chevy100 (2011), and HBO's Marina Abramovic: The Artist is Present (2012).  Together with his partner, G. Marq Roswell, Little most recently served as music supervisor on the forthcoming Universal Pictures & Quentin Tarantino Presents Man With the Iron Fists (2012), and is a producer on the soundtrack album which features the music of Kanye West, The Black Keys, Wiz Khalifa, Wu-Tang Clan and Stax  As a producer and music supervisor, Little has collaborated intimately with a diverse range or musical artists that includes George Jones, John Legend, Fleet Foxes, the RZA, and Elliot Goldenthal, and he is co-author of the encyclopedic My Country Roots, a comprehensive compendium of 100 years of country music songwriting.

    Asi Burak, Co-President

    As co-president of Games for Change, Asi Burak is guiding the investment of $8 million into new game projects for partners and clients, including USAID, The World Bank and the American Museum of Natural History. Prior to Games for Change, Burak co-founded and led Impact Games, the creators of the award-winning PeaceMaker and Play the News gaming platforms (acquired 2010). Burak was recently named one of the “Digital 25: Leaders in Emerging Entertainment” by the Producers Guild of America and Variety.

    Michelle Byrd, Co-President

    Michelle Byrd is a veteran media executive. As co-president of Games for Change, she produces the Annual Games for Change Festival (with 800 attending and 8000+ participating online) and its annual awards. Prior to Games for Change, she served for 12 years as executive director of the Independent Filmmaker Project, the oldest and largest organization in the U.S. of independent filmmakers (10,000+). She is also the recipient of New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg's “Made in New York” Career Achievement Award for Film and Television.

    Alan Gershenfeld, President of E-Line Media

    Alan Gershenfeld has spent the last 25 years at the intersection of entertainment technology and social entrepreneurship. He is currently founder and president of E-Line Media, a publisher of digital entertainment that engages and empowers with digital games. Prior to E-Line, Alan spent seven years as CEO and Co-Founder of Netomat, a leader in mobile-web community solutions. Before co-founding Netomat, Alan spent six years at Activision s as member of the executive management team that rebuilt Activision from bankruptcy into an industry leader with more than a billion dollars in revenue. He serves on the Board of Directors of FilmAid International and on the advisory Board of Joan Ganz Cooney Center for Educational Media and Research (Sesame Workshop).

    Emily Treat, Senior Games Producer

    Emily leads production of game development of the Facebook and mobile games.  Beginning at Leapfrog, Emily worked on a range of e-learning platforms and games for children and teens. Since then, she has workedat the MIT Media Lab, produced learning games for 360KID, and led all game design in Kaplan Inc’s international office in London.  Emily graduated from Carnegie Mellon’s Entertainment Technology Center in 2006 and earned her BA in Fine Arts and Cultural History, also at Carnegie Mellon.
