RSC Dalton Division invites calls for 5+5+5 meeting at Dalton 2016

29 – 31 March 2016
Warwick, UK

We are looking for 5 sets of people, each containing 1 Canadian, 1 US and 1 UK based researcher in any area of inorganic chemistry to take part in a 5+5+5 meeting at the Dalton 2016 meeting to be held in Warwick, UK 29-31 March 2016.

The scheme is designed to initiate new collaborations and preference will be given to groups of people where diversity (age, gender, ethnicity, etc) has been taken into account. An attempt will also be made to cover a wide range of inorganic chemistry in the selected collaborations.

The ACS Division of Inorganic Chemistry and Inorganic Chemistry are proud to announce Daniel Gamelin, University of Washington, as the winner of the third Inorganic Chemistry Lectureship Award. Dr. Gamelin was nominated by his peers for his broad, unique, and outstanding sustained contribution to the development of inorganic nanoscience. He will be presented with an award at a symposium in his honor at the fall ACS National Meeting, August 16-20, 2015 in Boston, MA.

Dr. Gamelin’s research interests focus on combining synthesis, spectroscopy, and ligand field theory or ab initio electronic-structure methods to elucidate key functional properties of inorganic materials. His work has been recognized with numerous awards including the ACS Inorganic Nanoscience Award, a Sloan Research Fellowship, a Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Award, and a Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers. He is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, a Senior Fellow of the Zukunftskolleg, and a Scialog Fellow of the Research Corporation.

The Kavli Foundation has agreed to sponsor The Kavli Foundation Emerging Leader in Chemistry Lecture through 2025 featuring two lectures at each ACS national meeting. The Kavli Foundation Emerging Leader in Chemistry Lecture is awarded to an outstanding chemical scientist who is less than 10 years past receipt of his/her PhD and is under 40 years of age.  The candidate is a distinguished younger scientist who is highly regarded by his or her peers for significant contributions to an area of chemistry or related multidisciplinary area of chemistry.

MPPG is very pleased to sponsor the sixth lecture in this series at the 250th ACS National Meeting in Boston with the involvement of the ACS Divisions in nominating the candidates for this award.

TRAVEL FELLOWSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT

 

U.S. National Committee’s Young Observer Program

48th IUPAC General Assembly and 45th IUPAC Congress

Busan, South Korea

August 6-14, 2015

 

The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC), a worldwide leader in advancing the chemical sciences, is holding its 48th General Assembly (August 6-13, 2015) and its 45th Congress (August 9-14, 2015) in Busan, South Korea.

The U.S. National Committee for IUPAC is seeking outstanding U.S. scientists and engineers under the age of 45, with interests and expertise related to the working groups of IUPAC, to travel as Young Observers to South Korea. The USNC/IUPAC will provide travel fellowships of $2500 to successful candidates.

This Young Observer Program provides an excellent opportunity to become involved in the work of IUPAC, develop an international network of scientists and engineers, and represent your U.S. colleagues in the chemical sciences.

 

Successful candidates must:

• Be a U.S. scientist or engineer under the age of 45, be active in chemical or chemical engineering research in academia, government, or industry. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident (Green Card Holder).
• Have a specific interest in one or more of the business meetings and technical sessions that will be held in Korea.
• Have a strong interest in collaborative work with scientists in laboratories outside of the United States.
• Have an interest in continuing activities through the IUPAC organization.

Career scientist applicants should ideally have, but are not required to have, five years of independent research/work experience after the completion of their educational experience. In exceptional cases applications from graduate students and postdoctoral researchers will be considered.

Former YOs may apply for a maximum second YO experience. They must demonstrate how they have remained involved with IUPAC since their first experience.

2015 Young Observer Program Application Deadline is February 23, 2015.
