In Look Not Unto the Morrow, innocence shattered and ultimate redemption are portrayed against the backdrop of the Vietnam War and the turbulent sixties. The story follows the lives of three young people as they experience love and war.  Roger Gaines is the promising young college student, drafted into the army and traumatized by his experiences in basic training and Vietnam.  Pam Wentworth is the loving girlfriend he leaves behind, who evolves from  naive college student, to political activist, to radical anarchist.  Michelle Healy is the young woman Roger meets when he returns home, who loves him unconditionally when can no longer love himself.

“I recommend to anyone with an interest in the Vietnam War era.” – former senator and presidential candidate George McGovern.

Review by Kevin M. Benderman, Iraqi War Veteran, war resister and peace activist.

“I think this book will help show the changes war causes in people. Those who fight them and the people close to them. War affects individuals in ways that are unique to each one. I wish no one else would have to go through those changes….ever again.”

Review by David Swanson of War is a Crime (warisacrime.org).

“Robert Fantina, the author of a tragically nonfictional survey of the lives of soldiers in all past U.S. wars, has now published a devastatingly fictional account of the war that the Vietnamese call the American War.

“I say devastatingly fictional, because Fantina condenses and concentrates into one small book and the lives of a very few characters the lead-up to, the experience of, and the aftermath of a U.S. soldier’s participation in that war.

“The plot is not predictable, the lessons not pedantic, but the story of Look Not Unto the Morrow is a story that grabs you more firmly by the throat because of the knowledge of how many people have lived it.

“….a good writer can… show us what’s happening inside the heads of multiple characters, can personalize public affairs with the power of mythology. To see what I’m talking about, read Look Not Unto the Morrow.”
