It is with great sadness that the FIDE Chess in Schools Commission has learned that IA, IO Sevan Muradian (1975-2016) passed away on 18 February 2016.
The Commission expresses its sincere condolences to his family and to the US Chess Federation.
Sevan was our special consultant on home schooling. He was also well known as an International Arbiter, International Organizer and FIDE Lecturer. He made a great contribution to the chess community in the USA and around the world.
Rest in peace Sevan!

School Instructor title & seminar during World Youth

The idea behind the title is to educate and certify chess teachers on an international basis so that they may introduce the school student to the basic chess rules and broaden the base of chess players worldwide.

The seminar will be held in the mornings from 27 October to 1 November, excluding the free day (30 October). Registration is open now - first come, first served (maximum 30). Details of the seminar are here.
The FIDE title of School Instructor, which has had a chequered history since its introduction in 2012, was returned to the Chess in Schools Commission (from TRG) by the FIDE Executive Board in Abu Dhabi.

During the closing ceremony of the u16 Chess Olympiad in Ulaanbaatar, an agreement was signed by Yadamsuren Sanjmyatav MP, boosting the number of FIDE Premium Student Members by a record breaking 10,184!
This Chess in Schools development should make it into the Guiness Book of Records.
The Mongolian Chess Federation has been extremely active since the election in May of CiS Secretary Sainbayar Tserendorj as its new President.
Chess in Schools is making huge strides in Mongolia. A Chess in Schools workshop for FSCT (FIDE School Chess Teacher) was also held during the Olympiad, with 29 keen attendees, all of whom worked hard.
