In a stunning development, the AI program AlphaGo has swept the European Go champion and Chinese professional player Fan Hui 5-0 in a formal match. “This signifies a major step forward in one of the great challenges in the development of artificial intelligence – that of game-playing,” said the British Go Association, which released the news on January 27, based on findings reported in the scientific journal Nature this week (see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g-dKXOlsf98 for a video).

Google has now issued a challenge to world champion Lee Sedol for a $1M match and Lee has accepted. It will be played in Seoul in March.
The inaugural IMSA Elite Mind Games (IEMG) will be held February 25 to March 3, 2016, in Huai’an City, Jiangsu Province, China. The venue will be announced.
All five members of IMSA will be featured: Bridge, Chess, Draughts, Go, and Xiangqi. In all, we expect about 180 players and 50+ international officials to participate.
With a total budget of > $2.5M, this new event replaces the previous SportAccord World Mind Games (SAWMG) held in December from 2011 to 2014.
The WBF President Gianarrigo Rona and the WBF President Emeritus José Damiani had the great honour and privilege of being received by the former President of the People’s Republic of China Mr. Jiang Zemin.
The Third edition of the SportAccord World Mind Games is now officially open.
