Why go Greek?

SIU’s 34 fraternities and sororities are the largest values-based organizations on campus.  They offer dozens of leadership opportunities within each organization to make you into a stronger leader, such as serving as the Intramural Athletics Chair, Alumni Chair, Treasurer, or Homecoming Chair.  Greeks are committed to service, through participation in such events like those for the American Red Cross, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and the Boys & Girls Club of Carbondale and raising money for a variety of charities like the Women’s Center and Special Olympics.  There is also the opportunity to be involved in some of SIU’s oldest traditions such as Greek Sing (which started in 1936) or the all-campus Theta Xi Variety Show (which started in 1947).  By being a part of a Greek organization, you can do all of this and more, while still focusing on the reason you are here –academics.  Join hundreds of Greek brothers and sisters who go to class together and study together, all while still achieving GPAs well above the all SIU average.  Go Greek!
