The Fair Use Repository at fair-use.org is an effort to make important historical documents freely accessible, easily readable, and easy for researchers to cite online. We prepare freely-accessible electronic copies of (1) documents in the public domain, and (2) the portions of documents cited in fair use by participating researchers. We are working to make citation easy for human researchers and readers to use, and to encourage, by example, best practices in using semantic HTML and other open web technologies to mark up the passages of printed documents that we transcribe. Online editions of books, including the first complete online editions of: G. E. Moore’s Principia Ethica and Ethics, Pierre-Joseph Proudhon’s General Idea of the Revolution in the Nineteenth Century, Benjamin Tucker’s Instead of a Book, by a Man Too Busy to Write One and Randolph Bourne’s The State
Hosting free online editions of over 2,000 historical documents from letters, pamphlets, periodicals, and anthologies, on philosophy, history, politics and radical social movements.
Growing collections of browseable, scanned facsimiles of radical newspapers including William Lloyd Garrison’s The Liberator and the Anarchist movement paper Free Society.
Building open-source research tools including the Notes from the Margins Wiki, a new cross-linked, hypertext edition of Wendy McElroy’s “Comprehensive Index to LIBERTY” and a new Radical, Libertarian, Individualist and Anarchist Periodicals Index.
We put texts online in the hopes that they will be enjoyable, and useful to
