spacer Visitor Center

The Roper Lake Visitor Center is open year round from 8 am – 5 pm. Hours may vary by season. It features a gift shop, local area information, Junior Ranger programs, and restrooms.

Roper Lake State Park has modern, handicap accessible restrooms in the Visitor Center. There are also 2 restroom/shower buildings in the campgrounds.

 
spacer Gift Shop

The Gift Shop, located in the Visitor Center, has books, clothing, children’s toys, flora and fauna guides, fishing equipment and bait. Hours are 8 am – 5 pm. Hours may vary by season.

 
spacer Group: Day Use Areas

Island Group Ramada: Large group ramada with 6 picnic tables, BBQ grills and water spigots (no electricity), all near a grassy area and swimming beach. Maximum Group Size: 50 people. Vehicles and glass containers of any type are prohibited on the Island. Bring wagon or other device to haul picnic items. The walk to the Ramada is approximately 150 yards. Group Use reservation fee applies, in addition to per vehicle entrance fees. 

East Mesa Group Ramada: Large group ramada with 6 picnic tables, BBQ grill, water spigots, electric outlets, and close to restroom building. Overlooks the lake. Group Use reservation fee applies, in addition to per vehicle entrance fees. 

West Hill Group Ramada: Large group ramada with 6 picnic tables, BBQ grill, water spigots, fire ring and vault toilets. Access to the lake. Group Use reservation fee applies, in addition to per vehicle entrance fees.

Group reservations can be made up to one year in advance. To make group reservations call the park directly.

Gila Group Area Campground: 14 campsites with picnic tables and fire rings surrounding a large group ramada with 6 picnic tables, BBQ grills, and group fire ring. Non electric area. Water and vault toilets are available, with access to restroom shower building. There is a 10-vehicle minimum to reserve the group area. Group Use reservation fees apply, in addition to standard per vehicle per night camping fees.

spacer Site reservations are available by calling the Reservation Center at (520) 586-2283. You can call 7 days a week, from 8 am to 5 pm MST. There is a $5 non-refundable reservation fee per site. You may also reserve campsites 24/7 for this park online spacer

Important Note: At this park, the entrance gate is closed nightly at 10 pm.

Hacienda Campground: 20 sites with water & electric (20/30 amp). Each site includes fire rings and picnic tables. Hacienda campground has a bathroom with hot showers near entrance of campground. Most sites will accommodate a vehicle length of up to 45 feet and are a mix of pull through and back-in sites.

Cottonwood Campground:  25 sites with water & electric hookup sites (20/30/50 amp). Each site includes fire rings, picnic tables, and a small shade Ramada. Cottonwood campground has a bathroom with hot showers. Most sites will accommodate a vehicle length of up to 45 feet and are back-in only.

Gila Campground: The Gila campground offers 8 cabins, 5 non-electric sites and a 14 site group camp area. All non-electric sites include fire rings and picnic tables. Water is available at most sites.

Camping Fees & Notes:
Non-electric sites are $15.00 per night/per vehicle. Electric and water hook-up sites are $25.00 per night/per vehicle.

Campsite fees shall be based upon 1 vehicle per site, with the exception of a towed vehicle behind the primary camping unit. Occupancy will not exceed 6 adults and a total of twelve individuals. Additional vehicles, where feasible, will be charged an additional fee of $15.00 per night. The total number of individuals permitted will not exceed 6 adults and a total of twelve individuals.

Campers with reservations who do not show up by 12 noon the day following the first night’s reservation will forfeit all payments and campsite will become available for firstcome, first-served or new reservation. Occupying or holding other vacant sites is not allowed and grounds for eviction.

Check-in time is 2 pm. Arriving earlier then 2 pm does not guarantee the sites’ availability. Checkout time is 12 Noon on the scheduled departure date.

spacer Camping Cabin reservations are available by calling the Reservation Center at (520) 586-2283. You can call 7 days a week, from 8 am to 5 pm MST. There is a $5 reservation fee per site. You may also reserve Camping Cabins 24/7 for this park online spacer (Note: Cabins are in the Gila Loop)

spacer Eight cabins line the lake at Roper Lake State Park offering a plethora of recreational opportunities. Cabins at Roper Lake are variably furnished with bunk beds with mattresses and/or full size beds with mattress. The cabins are outfitted with electricity and air-conditioning/heating. Open flame as produced by candles and stove burners are not permitted in the cabins. Picnic tables and charcoal grills make for a well-equipped outdoor setting. Restrooms and showers are within walking distance. Cabins are available year-round. (Learn about other parks with Camping Cabins)

spacer Cost: $55-$65 per night.
The rental party must comprise at least 1 person 18 years of age or older. Occupancy is a maximum of 4 adults not to exceed 6 persons total, including children.

Pets: Pets are only allowed in the following cabins: Mustang, Roadrunner, Coyote, Hummingbird and Bass. Pets are not allowed in the Bear, Elk or Lion Cabins. No exceptions. There is a $5.00 per night/per pet fee for pets.

Check In/Out: Check in at 3 pm. Check out by 10 am.

spacer Reservations: Reservations can be made up to 365 days in advance and a minimum of 2 days in advance. The units can be rented for a maximum of 14 nights.

Reservation Fee & Deposit: Full payment is required at the time the reservation is booked, including a 5.00 reservation fee.

Cancellations: 1. If the reservation is cancelled in less than 24 hours in advance one night’s fees are forfeited. 2. Campers who do not show up by 12 noon the day following the first night’s reservation will forfeit all payments and cabin/yurt will become available for first-come, first-served or new reservation. If you need to cancel please call and cancel prior to arriving at the park.

No shows: Campers who do not show up by 12 noon the day following the first night’s reservation will forfeit all payments and campsite will become available for firstcome, first-served or new reservation.

A campsite with or without water and electric hook-up is available for use near the cabins for an additional charge.

 
spacer Dump Station

The park has a sewage dump station. The dump station is only available to registered campers.

 
spacer Showers

Roper Lake has two shower buildings located in the campgrounds. These buildings are handicap accessible and have hot running water. There is no extra fee to use the showers for registered campers. They are open year-round.

 
spacer Picnic Areas/Shelters

There are several picnic areas throughout the park near the fishing and swimming areas. Most of these areas include a picnic table, BBQ grill and a shade Ramada.

 
spacer Hiking Trails

Five miles of trails in the park let you stretch your muscles and view the wildlife. 

The Mariah Mesa Trail is .75 miles loop trail. The rest of the trails in the park are paths that connect the campgrounds and day-use areas together. 

 
spacer Fishing

Roper Lake has Largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill, sunfish, catfish, and Rainbow trout. The park has a boat ramp and a handicap accessible fishing dock. Gas motors are not allowed to be operated on the lake. Fishing is not allowed in the swimming area.

A valid Arizona fishing license is required for anglers 10 years and older. Licensing information is available online at Arizona Game & Fish, or purchase a fishing license at a local dealer.

The park has a swimming area with a sandy beach. No lifeguard on duty. Swimming is at your own risk.  

 
spacer Boat Ramp

The park has a boat ramp and parking for boat trailers. Gas motors are not allowed to be operated on the lake. The park does not rent watercraft.

 
spacer Non-Motorized Watercraft

Non-Motorized Watercraft may launch at the boat ramp.

 
spacer Wildlife Viewing

Roper Lake is an excellent place for bird watching. Species commonly seen are Gamble’s Quail, Redwing Blackbird, Yellow headed Blackbird, Great horned owl, Cardinal, flycatchers, Kingfisher, Mallard duck, Ruddy duck, Grebes, Egrets, Herons, and Mergansers.

Mammals commonly seen are bobcats, raccoons, rabbits, squirrels, and coyotes.
