Kyudo: The Spiritual Path of Japanese Archery
Sundays 12:30-3:00pm
Kyudo is the Way of the Bow. The Japanese bow is large, supple, and is made of wood and bamboo. Because the act of shooting reflects the inner working, the heart, of the archer, Kyudo is a path of self-discovery. Kyudo provides the opportunity for the archer to be pure, and to continue this state until the arrow, naturally, of its own, leaves the bow. When practiced this way, Kyudo becomes a deeply spiritual training. All are welcome and we provide all the necessary equipment to people who are getting started.

Aikido practice will benefit you in many ways. Practical self defense skills will be learned, and the exercises will improve physical conditioning. Your balance and flexibility will improve and the concentration needed during practice is very effective in helping you ease the tension of everyday living.

Course in Miracles Study Group
Thursdays 7:00-8:30pm
A Course in Miracles is an internationally recognized day-by-day self-study program based on the practical application of the power of forgiveness and the attainment of peace of mind. The Course is a non-dual spiritual teaching written in Christian terminology for Western spiritual students and espouses the same non-dual truth found in Eastern teachings such Advaita Vedanta and Buddhism. First published in 1975 by the Foundation for Inner Peace, the Course teaches that forgiveness is the key to universal happiness and that we move toward this forgiveness by changing how we see the world as we observe it with our Inner Teacher rather than trying to change the world.

Tao Kung
Fridays 8:00-9:00am
Tao Kung is an internal energy and health movement system developed by the grandmaster of the Persatuan Gerak Badan (Body Movement Unity) school in Indonesia. A renowned healer, grandmaster Suhu Gunawan Rahardja designed these sets of gentle movements for patients and older adults who wish to maintain health, improve vitality, and increase their energy as they age. While some of the movements are reminiscent of yoga, qi gong, or tai chi exercises, this is a unique system for training internal energy. Adults must be at least 30 years old to participate. All movements can be adapted to suit individual levels of physical ability. Tao Kung is offered by Jaida Samudra at two locations in the East Bay: Friday mornings in El Cerrito and Wednesday afternoons in north Oakland.
There are no regular fees for the class, but students are asked to make donations (suggested $5 per session) to cover space rental.
For more information, contact Jaida Kim Samudra (jaida@lava.net).
