Obituaries

I love obituaries.  Not my own of course.

I like the length – not too long, not too short.

I like trying to find that single thing that sums up a life.   You know – discovered fire, invented the wheel, or maybe was a lollypop lady for 50 years.

I like how good obituarists fit in the facts of a person’s life without boring you, and how they manage to tell you that the deceased was a lazy, good for nothing bastard, without upsetting his widow.

I like that the British love them, and that UK newspapers are the only ones left with large obituary sections.

I particularly like the AOdeadpool obits.  The authors are largely professional obituary writers letting their hair down.

Read more about the old AOdeadpool here.  It’s recently moved to Facebook here.  Join in.

An Obituary is often the only way we learn about fascinating lives. Unfortunately, it is then too late to ask the deceased to tell us more.
