I’m not quite sure what belongs on this page. I’ve never thought of myself as a capital-P Pianist. Playing the piano constitutes roughly half my job, though it seems to function mostly as a tool that helps me slowly become a better musician—by applying compositional ideas interpretively, and vice versa. I tend to learn music best by putting my hands on it. I practice, too—probably not as much as I should, because technical facility doesn’t interest me as an end in itself.
If you’d like to hear me play the piano, I’d suggest attending a concert, or buying a recording. There are also a number of videos posted elsewhere online, though the idea of enshrining any of them in this space makes me cringe; the emphasis that “Classical Music” places on the interpretive act is a wonderful but also sometimes stultifying thing.
