MythBusters! Kati & Hannah debunk 4 common myths about PMS

Today I sit down with Hannah Hart to talk about PMS and debunk some of the common myths out there. I hope that this discussion helps you better understand PMS and maybe think twice before blaming someone’s or your own mood issues on it.

Myth 1: That everyone has PMS. Truth is that they estimate only 35% of women actually experience PMS. I can honestly say that I don’t experience it very often, and maybe this is a cue to all of us to check in with ourselves and see what else is going on in our lives.

Myth 2: That all women are irrational or crazy while PMSing. We know that’s a lie, but I just thought we should mention that many women just report experiencing the physical symptoms of PMS. Not the mood issues.

Myth 3: That all women are moody when PMSing. Just as we talked about before, many women only experience the physical symptoms of PMS. Moodiness comes from our hormonal shift, and while we can feel moody, not all of us are.

Myth 4: That there isn’t anything we can do to stop our PMS! NOT TRUE! We can talk to our doctor (if it is severe or bothersome) or we can try sleeping better, eating more healthfully, avoiding alcohol and exercising some. I know doing all of those at once can be too much, but just try incorporating one change and see if it helps.

My hope is that this video sparks conversations and helps people better understand PMS.

How Being Multilingual Changes You

Novelist and “Life of Pi” author Yann Martel has lived a life of travel and multilingual adventure. Nothing opens the mind like travel, he says, and nothing defines the self, or how we relate to one another, quite like language. Martel adroitly compares the linguistic practices of different nations, noting how the French are often hungry to adopt English words, but French Canadians resist such intrusion. And he dispels linguistic myths, such as the Inuit having more words for “snow” than other languages. Trilingual himself, Martel gives an insider’s account of this fascinating topic. Martel’s latest book is ‘The High Mountains of Portugal’.
