North Carolina’s N-Prolenta, also known as Brandon Covington, is an elusive producer. Fleeting productions such as the slippery ‘Penance’ for Serpentwithfeet, or their own ‘Hreams’ Dream’, which appeared on NON WORLDWIDE COMPILATION, VOL. 1. compiled by the justly embattled African-diasporic label of Angel-Ho, Chino Amobi, and Nkisi, showed a fierce experimentalism.
Like NON, N-Prolenta is concerned with the articulation of societal structures, but particularly with the way such oralities “overlap, collude, separate and shift”, causing what they term ‘supraoralities’, which “remain in instantaneous dialogue with individual actors in a sort of call and response”. Acknowledging standardised narratives of disengagement, Convington affirms: “Lots of us have…

“Here there remains nothing to achieve, witness it, as it floats by like clouds in the sky.” This is one of the many articulations that permeate London’s Chisenhale Dance on March 5, 2016. Through a meditation on subject position and how a body of thought gets defined and grounded in truth, Taylor Le Melle‘s curatorial project, Citizen brings together a pile up of voices thrown together by installation, film, and live performance. Each presence in the space contributes to the overarching rhythm of the event; leaning on one another, the order of appearance feels like a gradual build up saturated by the varying densities of individual lived…

The ARKA group, a collaborative practice between artists Ben Jeans Houghton and Matthew de Kersaint Giraudeau, presents Votives, an exhibition of assemblage and photography at Space In Between that ran from October 1 until November 14, 2015.
The majority of the sculptures are displayed on the floor and are inspired by the incidental way in which they were found. Arrangements of found rubbish and recycled materials form new relationships with one another; the scavenged and cast away is re-presented in a delicate and tender collection of brightly coloured art objects. The pile-up of materials from rubbish to discount shopping and charity shops sit in front of three large glossy…

London-based artist and writer Caspar Heinemann had a solo show at Vienna’s Kevin Space that ran from February 23 to March 20 titled nothing is the end of the world they made. Heinemann was the new curatorial collective’s first artist in residence at the space and they made a show by summoning and foraging the traces of material and semiotic references in the found objects that occupied the garage building at the former butchers, and all the invisible things produced in between.
A dragon is drawn on a plastic tarpaulin, which is held on a wall like a flag outside a child’s den by a piece of blue rope strung between a…

Berlin-based artist Adam Fearon presented p13n, a solo exhibition curated by Thomas Butler at not-for-profit space Room E-10 27 in Paris. The title refers to Amazon’s algorithm for the personalization of tailoring their products and services to accommodate specific individuals and improve costumer satisfaction. Placed within the context of digital sale initiatives and customized branding, Fearon explores subject positions within the shifting experience of contemporary life.

The show responds to the circular shape of the room, a grey board of MDF (medium-density fibreboard) is made into an octagon stage and is painted grey. Two MacBook Airs are turned on their side, creating a sculptural triptych; the screen in the middle plays a…

    “What a luxury annoyance is.”
    —from Solitude by Lia Purpura
In the last exhibition in its intimate second-floor Rivington Street space before its multi-story/storefront expansion, On Stellar Rays presents a group exhibition curated by km temporaer’s Elisa R. Linn and Lennart Wolff. I came to the opening early and spent some time with each piece. I knew little else apart from the show’s title, I Pledge Allegiance, and the curious synopsis —“inspired by a 1982 Artforum article” —which led me there.
A majority of the work was characterized by a marked hastiness and nonchalance. There was an abundance of throw-away materials, cardboard, insulation foam. But this was…
