About Me

At my first teaching job in Korea (2005) with my students (and mother).

I consider myself a dedicated teacher and leader in international higher education. My interests comprise English language education, cross-cultural communication, education abroad, rhetoric, ethics, and service-learning. I have taught freshman writing and English as a second language for many years in California, the United Kingdom and South Korea. At UC Irvine, I served as a Pedagogical Fellow (2010/2011), in addition to tutoring other graduate students at the Graduate Resource Center and serving as a peer mentor for incoming international graduate students through the Graduate InterConnect program. I have held leadership roles through student government and student diplomacy at UC Irvine, and received the Global Leadership Certificate in 2014. Finally, I wrote my dissertation on the support of international undergraduate students in higher education. It is with delight that I’ve recently accepted an academic affairs position at Schreiner University in Texas, as Coordinator of the Changing Global Society Initiative. As part of this initiative, I lead campus internationalization efforts, including study abroad.

With my colleagues, the AGS International Students Committee at UC Irvine (2013).

Although it may not appear so, I am trans-national (some would call me a Third Culture Kid). Cumulatively, I have lived in six countries – including Norway, Kenya, South Korea, and Canada – across four continents and traveled to 46 countries.

I have presented my research at CIES (Comparative and International Education Society), TESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages), CATESOL (California TESOL), and FIGT (Families in Global Transition) conferences, and have also written for International Educator and Language Magazine.

My personal interests include traveling, hiking, backpacking, writing, photography, cooking vegetarian food, and playing my ukelele. Although I have not updated it recently, feel free to check out some of my photography on Flickr.
