This recipe is from Uncle John's Original Bread Book

1 cup of milk, scalded to luke warm.
1 package yeast, dissolved in 1 cup warm water. ( I always "proof" the yeast by adding 1 tablespoon of the measured sugar
and wait until bubbles form).
7 1/2 cups all purpose flour(variable). (King Arthur).
!/2 cup Crisco
1 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 large eggs, beaten.

Rose Foerch's Chocolate Cake

Submitted by peggyf on Sat, 02/05/2011 - 12:32.

I saw the earlier post on a recipe and thought I'd add this one from my recipe book. I wrote this in my book in about 1988 just like this which I copied verbatim from the recipe, and I don’t know if I got it from Barbara Palmer or my father Ed Foerch (Barbara's brother), but my dad says this was always his favorite cake. I might have a few more kicking around - if I do, I'll post them.

Grandma’s Chocolate Cake

1 egg
1 cup sugar
½ cup cocoa
Pinch of salt
½ cup Crisco
½ cup sour milk – to make, add one teaspoon vinegar
½ teaspoon vanilla
½ cup boiling water

Unbaked Yeast Rolls - the reason we have cats

Submitted by Michelle on Sun, 12/19/2010 - 11:33.

(NOTE: this was received from some friends in Alabama, about their exploits over Thanksgiving. It had Michelle and Eddie in stitches. Enjoy!)

Unbaked Yeast Rolls

Those of you who have animals will probably appreciate this the most. It is a story that is hilarious in itself and the person who wrote it is a good writer and made the story even better. Enjoy...

California travel

Submitted by eddiebeale on Sat, 06/19/2010 - 15:45.

This is a bit dated, but Michelle and I went to California for a few days in late May. I'd been asked to deliver a short speech for the graduates of my MA program at San Diego State University. It was a nice trip, visiting all our old haunts. We also took a day trip to Los Angeles to visit some of Michelle's side of the family. Here's a picture we took with our NEW (rental) CAR! Hope everyone is well, keep us posted.

Happy Spring!

Submitted by Michelle on Mon, 06/07/2010 - 06:52.

I just wanted to say hello & use the family page! Spring has moments this year of feeling like summer already. I'm hoping the few veggies I planted will be OK from all the rain. Ed also found we have a wild blueberry bush, but all the tiny berries have a hole once they ripen.

Grandma told us at our last visit that Peggy and her girls will be coming east to Rhode Island and may make a stop in CT to visit family!

Have a great day!

Love,
Michelle

Kids love Michelle's Cake
Michelle and I really appreciated everyone who ventured south to our place this past Saturday. It was nice to mark the milestone with all our family and friends. We hope everyone enjoyed the food from Paul's Pasta in Groton, and of course the "tunnel of fudge" birthday cake!

Celebrating Birthdays

Submitted by wbeale on Sun, 10/11/2009 - 21:12.

Enjoying fall with family and friends is one of the most pleasant things to do and this weekend was nothing short of landmark in that regard. To start the games off we had a great gathering at the "Oakdale Beales'" place to celebrate Michelle's 40th Birthday on Saturday and boy was it a celebration indeed!

Shayla's First Day of Pre-K

Submitted by wbeale on Wed, 09/02/2009 - 10:24.

Friday, August 28th was Shayla's meet-and-greet and orientation for her pre-k class. She was able to ride the bus for the first time and check out her new environment. Afterward, we crossed the Connecticut river via the Glastonbury-Rockyhill ferry to enjoy an impromptu lunch with mom...all told, a relaxing daddy/daughter day to round out a busy and enjoyable summer!
