Bowman Legacy Fund

Dear Friends of FEBC:

It’s with great sorrow and joy that I write to you today to let you know that our founder, Dr. Bob Bowman, entered into God’s presence very early yesterday morning, March 11, 2014, following a brief illness.  We will miss him terribly, as he was a fount of godly wisdom and encouragement right up until his final days, but we know that he is now in the arms of his Heavenly Father, whom he loved beyond measure.  His life’s passion was pursuing God and he did that faithfully.  What a testimony that his passion also made it possible for millions to enter God’s Kingdom through the work of FEBC!

During a recent visit with Dr. Bowman, he encouraged me with these words: “Remain focused on the main thing.  It’s all about Jesus.  Just share the Gospel; it will change lives.”  This, of course, is what we will continue to do at FEBC…to honor God and continue Dr. Bowman’s legacy of reaching the lost for Christ.

For many of you who knew Dr. Bowman, you also know how much he adored his lifelong wife and partner, Eleanor.  I’m happy to tell you that in his final weeks, they were in the same skilled nursing facility of the retirement village in which they lived, where they were visited often by family and friends.  Even his nurses remarked, “Dr. Bowman is such a special man!”   His godliness was evident till the very end.

Without question, Dr. Bowman knew that life’s end was only a transition to an eternal life with Christ, which he captured so beautifully in a poem penned in 1978:

“Like ships that pass in the night are we
Who sail life’s oceans and turbulent sea,
A hail…farewell…
And so we are gone,
Over horizons to what lies beyond!
And ever, or not, we meet again,
On ocean wild mid seas of men,
A prayer within my heart shall be,
For a meeting once more in Eternity.”

(Journey of Life, Inspired Poems of Bob Bowman, Scott’s Christian Publishing, 2006)

A private graveside service will be attended by family.  In the next couple of weeks, a public memorial service is  planned, which will take place at Evangelical Free Church of Fullerton, in which all are invited.

Join with us in praying for the Bowman family, as they prepare to bid farewell to not only a man of God,  but a man dearly loved.

Yours in Christ,
