People are not ‘distracted from relationships by their phones’ – they are developing relationships through space and time using technology that suits them. Stop telling people to get off their phones when at the same time you expect 100% availability coz ‘flexible working in the digital workplace’.

Why have I seen ‘DNN’ talking about intranets so much? What’s going on? I had to find our more about this ‘not new’ intranet platform.
Design is an oft misused word. Some people assume it means how things look, when really, design is about how things work.
There’s another misconception, that intranets are designed by ‘the designer’ before launch to suit business requirements.
I think we all know this is wrong these days. ‘Design’ is much more than the ‘look n feel’ and is about the user experience. And intranets are designed in a collaborative matter, over time.
Improving the user experience of your intranet is as important as developing increased functionality. In fact, functions will get neglected if they’re not easy to use.

What I wish I could say to people who hate their new intranet.
Marketing communications may seem wholly separate to internal communications, and in turn the marketing team may feel worlds apart from the internal communications team. Yet marketing campaigns are stronger and more authentic when employees are involved. Don’t be ‘that company’ where the staff know less about your news than industry experts.
You might only launch one brand new intranet in your career, but you may well revamp several. So a robust approach to the design and planning of your intranet is something every intranet manager needs.
