San Marino in 2019

Welcome to the official website for the San Marino in 2019 Worldcon Bid!

If you're like most people, you've never heard of the Most Serene Republic of San Marino. Or maybe you think we're talking about the city in the San Rafael Hill in Los Angeles County. That's a nice place, and maybe someone else will want to hold a Worldcon there, but we're talking about the country in Europe that once made Abraham Lincoln an honorary citizen. Yeah, that San Marino.

Obviously 2019 is still a long way off. We're working up steam, gathering momentum, and with your help building up our pre-supporting membership. Did you see what we did there? Yep, we cleverly brought up the idea that you should click on the "Support Us" menu button above and join. Why would we do such a thing, right here in the second paragraph of our first blog post? Because we're Audacious, that's why.

Get used to that word, you're going to see it a lot here. Audacity is one of the critical organizing principles of this Bid. That, and cake, but we'll talk about the cake later. For now, let's focus on our desire to interest you in the quirky and awesome nation of San Marino, because it's unlike any other place that has ever mounted a bid for the Worldcon. Let's point out that this Bid is so committed to the fiction that's at the core of our genre that everyone who supports our bid gets a free ebook. Sure, we'll have ribbons too, and parties, and cake (there's that darn cake thing again...), but we're especially proud of the free anthologies we're creating just for the Bid.

As for those ribbons, you'll start seeing them in November at the World Fantasy Convention in Washington, D.C.

Our first official Bid Party is scheduled for 8pm, Saturday, November 22nd, 2014 at Philcon in Cherry Hill, NJ. We hope to see you there. In the meantime, please take a few moments to browse the rest of this site, learn a bit about the Republic, and see how you feel about becoming a bit audacious yourself.
