From a brief biography of a man raised as a chicken, to a mortuary romance, to a tale that teeters on the edge of a precariously-assembled tower, issue forty-two of Neon is packed with excellent poetry and fiction. There’s even a grotesquely surreal comic by Swedish artist Janne Karlsson, and a beautiful cover image by urban explorer and photographer James Kerwin. Featured writers include Luke Silver, Clifford Parody, Jane Flett, Mack W Mani, Tara White, Eliza Victoria, Gregory Cartwright, Caroline Hardaker, and Natalia Theodoridou.

Neon is free to read online, and costs just £4.00 for a physical copy. In its perfect-bound format each issue is around 70 pages, and is photo-illustrated in black and white. Included with the print edition of this issue is a free broadside by Jaclyn Weber.

Published winter 2016 (print and online).

Neon‘s fortieth issue is filled with some seriously unsettling fiction, with stories revolving around horrors as diverse as giant spiders and drive-thru fast food joints. There’s also a selection of poetry and prose-poetry hybrids featuring errant next door neighbours, lurking swamp monsters, and a pill that can make you fall in love. This issue’s authors are Sean Markey, Laura McKee, Sam Kolinski, Paul Clyne, Ruth Brandt, Flavian Mark Lupinetti, Mack Gelber, Jenny Blackford, Kate Wisel, and Paul French. Sarah Katharina Kayß (issue thirty-six) also returns with another excellent cover image.

Neon is free to read online, and costs just £4.00 for a physical copy. In its new, perfect-bound format each issue is around 70 pages, and is photo-illustrated in black and white. Free copies of Francine Rubin’s poetry pamphlet The Last Ballet Class will be distributed along with this issue.

Neon Literary Magazine #39

spacer

In issue 39 of Neon everything goes wrong. Parties become nightmares, bridges collapse into bays, a house fire consumes possessions, cars freeze over and life plans dissolve into nothingness. But if that all sounds a bit depressing it’s worth mentioning that there are also dinosaurs and quicksand-related adventures and an elephant that nobody seems to want to speak about, even when it’s drinking their tea. Contributors to this issue include James Nixon, Tracey Iceton, Debra McQueen, Emily Rose Cole, Alex Sword, Colin Bancroft, Jasmine Chatfield, Matthew Di Paoli, Jack Houston, Gerard McKeown, and Frederick Pollack. The cover image is by the very talented Davyd Samuels.

Neon is free to read online, and costs just £4.00 for a physical copy. In its new, perfect-bound format each issue is around 70 pages, and is photo-illustrated in black and white. Free copies of Neon‘s first ever pamphlet (the intriguingly-titled Selected Timelines: Past & Future by Holly Jensen) will be distributed along with this issue.

Published winter 2014 (print and online).

“Quicksand” by Matthew Di Paoli is now available as a Neon Single in PDF, EPUB and MOBI formats.
