Catalog of Unabashed Gratitude by Ross Gay, has been named the winner of the 2015 National Book Criticis Circle Award. Read more here. The book also won the 2016 Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award, and was a finalist for the the 2015 National Book Award and the NAACP Image Award. On March 21, 2016 the University of Pittsburgh Press and the Center for African American Poetry and Poetics hosted a landmark event, giving the community an opportunity to explore the most profoundly vexing problem in America—race—through the insight and writings of six acclaimed African American poets Moderated by Terrance Hayes.

Congratulations to Pitt Poet Ron Wallace, whose collection For Dear Life won the 2015 Edna Meudt Poetry Book Award from the Council for Wisconsin Writers.

Congratulations to Risa Applegarth, author of Rhetoric in American Anthropology: Gender, Genre, and Science, winner of the 2016 CCCC Outstanding Book Award (monography category). The book was praised for making “an important contribution to research on disciplinary rhetorics and genre.” Applegarth’s honor marks the third time in five years that a UPP title from our Pittsburgh Series in Composition, Literacy, and Culture has won this prize.

Congratulations to Rickey Laurentiis, a finalist for the Thom Gunn Award for Gay Poetry from The Publishing Triangle for his collection Boy with Thorn. Winners will be announced on April 21.

Congratulations to Melissa Yancy, winner of the 2016 Drue Heinz Literature Prize, for her short story collection Dog Years. Read the press release.
