American Idol Top Six Take on Carole King
Last night's American Idol performances paid homage to legendary songwriter Carole King, whose hits are almost countless, giving the finalists plenty of material.
Some of the highlights from the top six:
- Presumptive frontrunner James Durbin stripping down his usual hard rock style for an intimate take on "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow."
- Scotty McCreery bouncing back from last week and taking on "You've Got a Friend" and adding a unique twist to the James Taylor classic.
- Haley Reinhart delivering a powerful performance of "Beautiful" that was certainly true to its name, especially by the time she got to the end.
Take a look at their performances below and tell us who you think was best - and who you think is deserves a one-way ticket home on the results show tonight ...

American Idol Cuts Fan Favorite; Field Down to Six
American Idol bid farewell to a performer last night that:
- Has been a fan favorite since the start
- Has been in the bottom three already
- Has been on borrowed time for weeks
As American Idol results shows go, this was not a big surprise. The bottom three were more or less predictable, as was the one aspirant sent home Thursday.
So who's out? Haley Reinhart, Jacob Lusk or Stefano Langone?
American Idol Top Seven: The Best of the Best
Last night's American Idol performances were geared toward "21st Century" performances and therefore gave the field a vast array of selections from which to choose.
Some of the highlights from the top seven:
- James Durbin channeling Muse with "Uprising," stepping out of his hard rock comfort zone and proving once again why he's the man to beat this season.
- Lauren Alaina going country with "Born to Fly."
- Casey Abrams doing his best rendition of Maroon 5's "Harder to Breathe," then ending it with a kiss of Jennifer Lopez that actually made the judge blush.

American Idol Results: Finally, a Guy Leaves!
American Idol bid farewell to a performer last night that:
- Is male
- Probably overstayed his welcome long ago
The first item is a first for an American Idol results show in six weeks, since the judges didn't let Casey Abrams' elimination stick, and the second point could apply to various people. One girl, Haley, ended up in the bottom three, but survived.
So who's out? Paul McDonald, Jacob Lusk or Stefano Langone?
Metal, Mellow & Miley: The Best of American Idol
This week on American Idol ...
James Durbin implored viewers to give heavy metal a chance, then took the stage with reckless abandon and delivered a performance that Ozzy would be proud of:

Casey Abrams went with a stripped-down version of Nat King Cole's "Nature Boy" that he put his own signature on. A very counterintuitive but also effective effort:
American Idol Elimination: A Shocking Result
American Idol bid farewell to a performer many felt would go all the way here in Season 10, and who some believed turned in the best performance the night before.
It was the second wild American Idol results show in three weeks, and the judges may be scratching their heads, wishing they had that save back right about now.
No offense to Casey Abrams, but come on.
Most pundits felt that the Bottom Three would be made of Paul McDonald, Jacob Lusk and Stefano Langone. That would have been two-thirds correct, but ...
Pia Toscano joined Jacob and Stefano on the block, and she's the one who ended up leaving! The judges were understandably shocked, but the votes don't lie.
"What a shock, what a surprise," Ryan Seacrest said, while Jennifer Lopez could not hold back the tears. "I have no idea what just happened here," she said.
"I'm shocked. I'm angry. I don't even know what to say."
"We're all in shock," said Randy Jackson. "I'm gutted."
Are you? Did the voters make as bad a call as the judges think? Or was Pia not as great as she's cracked up to be by some? Who's the favorite to win now?
Pia Toscano Outshines the American Idol Field
Pia Toscano threw it down last night on American Idol.
Her performance of Tina Turner's "River Deep, Mountain High" made it obvious that on this night at least, we were looking at Pia Toscano vs. everyone else.
She didn't just nail it, as Steven Tyler said. She annihilated it. "Murderer! Murderer! You killed it!" he said. Here's the performance that outclassed the field:

Compared to Pia, none of the other eight finalists really knocked it out of the park, although the judges were generally kind of all of their inspired efforts.
James Durbin sang the Beatles' "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," while Casey Abrams took Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Have You Ever Seen the Rain."
Others covered pioneers Elvis Presley (Scotty McCreery), Johnny Cash (Paul McDonald), Aretha Franklin (Lauren Alaina) and Michael Jackson (Jacob Lusk).
Haley Reinhart played off her early Janis Joplin comparisons with by covering the rocker's "Piece of My Heart." Who do you think is in danger this evening?
This is just a guess, but we'd put Stefano Langone, McDonald and Lusk in the bottom three. None of them really stood out Wednesday night. Do you agree?
American Idol Bids Farewell to Pair of Finalists
A week ago, American Idol judges shocked viewers by saving Casey Abrams, thereby ensuring that two finalists would be eliminated this Thursday.
And neither resulted in the same kind of surprise we experienced seven nights ago.
Thia Megia and Naima Adedapo, a pair of contestants that never fully clicked with fans, were sent home. The former couldn't separate herself from the pack at any point, while the latter may have tried too hard to do so, alienating viewers who weren't prepared for reggae versions of classic singles.
Paul McDonald was included in the bottom three along with Thia and Naima. Think viewers made the right call?
American Idol Review: Who Did Elton John Justice?
American Idol paid tribute to Elton John last night, and may have found a couple new contenders in the process.
First, Haley Reinhart surprised us by closing the show, an honor typically given to a contestant that has generated more buzz than the young woman many believed would be eliminated last week.
But Haley proved worthy of the concluding spot, bringing the sexy with a cover of "Bennie and the Jets" that started with her lounging on a piano. Randy called it the best of the night.

Lauren Alaina, meanwhile, was up to the challenge of John's classic Lady Diana ballad, "Candle in the Wind." She made the single her own by infusing it with some country twang.

Who else stood out? Which two contestants are in danger of elimination tonight?
American Idol Results: A Shocker!
Following one of the most impressive performance nights in years, American Idol served of a genuine shocker tonight.
First, Thia Megia and Casey Abrams found themselves in the bottom three along with Stefano Langone. Once Megia was sent back to the safe zone, it came down to the latter wild card entry and the former unique crooner, who has taken more risks than any contestant to date.
But they appeared to fail Casey this week, as Ryan announced he had been voted out.
Hoping to remain alive, Casey brought back his original audition song, "I Don't Need No Doctor." But Abrams only made it through a few lines when Randy Jackson stopped him... because the panel voted to save him!
Two finalists will be eliminated next week, as Jennifer Lopez tole the stunned Casey: "We just want you to get back to being the musician that you are. No more antics... You deserve to be here."
Think Casey were deserving of the judges' save? Sound off now!
