Southern Nevada is known for the tourist city of Las Vegas with its flashy casinos and non-stop nightlife, but this region is also home to a variety of natural attractions. This scenic desert environment is home to the colorful Red Rock mountains and several national parks. Adventurers will also be happy to find a variety of hiking trails and camping areas.

Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge

The Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge is located approximately 30 miles west of Pahrump, Nevada. It occupies 23,000 acres of desert. This area is home to 24 species of plants and animals that are only found on the Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge. One of these species is the devil's hole pupfish which can only be found in the Devil's Hole, a 10-meter deep hole located in the Northeast Corner of the park. Other types of endangered pupfish can be found within the many springs and streams on the refuge.
