“With her poems, Terry Godbey tells stories that break your heart, over and over."

Readings at 2 Relay for Life events

April 3, 2016

I’m honored to be reading several poems about my cancer battle from my book Hold Stillspacer  at back-to-back Relay for Life events in Central Florida. My first reading will take place about 6 p.m. Friday, April 22, in Winter Garden, and the second one will be about 1 p.m. the next day, Saturday, April 23 in Lake Buena Vista near Disney World in Orlando.

I’m delighted that copies of Hold Still will be included in gift baskets for survivors.

The Winter Garden Relay will be downtown at 300 W. Plant Street. Lake Buena Vista’s Relay will take place at the Reedy Creek Fire Station at 1920 E. Buena Vista Drive.

If you would like to donate and help me fight cancer, please visit my Relay page. If you would like to participate in a Relay, click here.

‘Wine & Conversation’ in Winter Park – Tonight!

July 8, 2015

spacer I’ll be reading my poetry at Writer’s Block Bookstore in Winter Park on Friday, Sept. 11, along with one of my favorite local poets, Laura Sobbott Ross. I’ll read from my latest book, Hold Still, but throw in some oldies from Flame, Beauty Lessons and Behind Every Door. Laura will read from her chapbook A Tiny Hunger, her new chapbook My Mississippi, which was just accepted for publication, and her new full-size collection, In the Space Between. There will be wine! We’ll start at 6:30 p.m. and answer questions afterward. Then we are likely to carouse along Park Avenue. All we need is you! (Did I mention that there will be wine?)

Scrub jay photo wins Audubon award

June 21, 2015

I’ve been dabbling in photography for the last couple of years, and it’s become my main creative pursuit and also my meditation. When I’m in the woods or wetlands, I am completely in the moment, something that’s always been impossible for me. As a poet, I’m usually looking back, and as a Type A, I am looking ahead and planning.

spacer So it was such a pleasure to win an award in the Orange Audubon Society’s annual photo contest for this shot of a friendly scrub jay in Lyonia Preserve in Deltona. This bird was enchanted by my bright blue cap and was very curious. But no more curious than I.
