It’s been just a couple weeks since we brought home a baby boy, and in my discombobulated and sleepy state, all I know is that every day down feels like a victory! I am so grateful for the little things, like a stolen nap here and there, chocolates sent from a sweet girlfriend, and encouragement from veteran mothers. I also never dreamed I could love and depend on a bra so much, specifically the life-saving T-shirt Bra by Swedish company Boob. The package was waiting for me as soon as I arrived home from the hospital, so I immediately switched to the super-comfy bra. Since then, I have only taken it off to wash it! Since keeping the little guy satiated requires feedings every 2-3 hours, quick access is paramount and comfort is a must as I fall asleep wearing it. Once I start returning to the “real world” and wearing something besides maternity clothes, I wanted a bra which gave me some shape and smooth contours, and this fit the bill perfectly. The T-shirt bra comes with removable pads and just in case, the size can be extended with the hook-and-eye ribbon. There’s no uncomfortable underwire but it is still firmly supportive. The fastening is extra wide (4 rows of hooks) so it doesn’t dig into skin. Just when I thought it couldn’t get better, the fabulous people at Boob have created the bra from recycled polyamide, making it a green option!

As a first-time mom-to-be, I’m finding that workouts are getting harder and harder with a growing bump. Not only are there a few restrictions to be mindful of, but getting heavier around the belly can make it a challenge as well – even well before the actual workout.  The amazing discovery I made was that Athleta, one of my favorite athletic clothing brands, makes maternity workout pants…YES!

Their classic and ever-so-popular Chaturanga Tight comes in a Low Belly and a High Belly option – whichever type of band you might prefer for the growing belly. (Side note: you can size down for these pants – a bonus feel-good moment when you’re seeing the number on the scale go up each month!)  Like with all other Athleta Chaturanga pants, it’s made of a mid-weight Supplex nylon/spandex blend with their signature PILAYO stretchy fabric that wicks and breathes away sweat. It also has a UPF 50+ for a bit of sun protection.

These pants are definitely made for the growing bump, and probably work best once you’re at the 20+ week mark. For the High Belly option, it might be a bit large in the waist until your bump is bigger…but you can just fold the top of the band down to get more wear out of them. Top it with a cute sweatshirt like this No Sweatin’ It Sharkbite Top and you’re all set for your next prenatal barre, pilates, yoga, etc. workout!

I recently read that technology might be killing the jewelry industry, specifically the brick-and-mortar fine jewelry establishments. This was somewhat depressing because I live in the core of the Los Angeles jewelry district, but I won’t take you down that road. Instead, I want to focus on the closing paragraph of the article, where a friend of the writer’s elected NOT to buy his graphic designer girlfriend diamond earrings as a gift because she couldn’t “use the earrings to make her artwork.”

What!? Who doesn’t want diamond earrings?!?
