My Story

spacer My name is Mario Mendoza (Lost Thought) from Los Angeles, CA and I am an independent musician and music marketing blogger.

I graduated from California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) with my Bachelors of Arts in Business Administration in 2004. I chose to use my degree and attack the online marketing industry for creatives.

I have been working on music marketing and web development of content strategies since 2007.

I was a former label partner from 2007-2010 and now I work independently with artists looking for online marketing ideas for their site. Freelance consulting became a positive experience for me and is my current position.

I work on multiple projects as well. While writing for Hip Hop Distribution I also created WordPress for Musicians The core topics there cover creating your own website and finding the right theme. I discuss different themes to purchases for WordPress setup and marketing tips as well. Feel free to check it out.

Why Start Hip Hop Distribution?

spacer

This site is dedicated to helping other independent musicians learn skills to successful online music marketing, share their own experiences and promote music through blogging. I started in October 2007 mainly because I wanted to record what I was learning about promoting my music online.

Once I had distribution, I wanted to create an active online marketing strategy for my record label. As the music industry is going through some fundamental changes and business models are being tested, it’s time for independent musicians to enter the arena and innovate.

Here are some core reasons why Hip Hop Distribution was started:

  • Create a resource for artists looking for online promotion ideas
  • Have a discussion area for artist to share their thoughts and network
  • Let’s discuss what actually works versus what we think we have to do. Be creative

I want to be transparent as possible with everything I do online. If you’re doing business online already, I hope my experiences, wins and failures, can help you reach your goals.

If you are not doing business online but are thinking about it, you can see what it is like and what is involved and then make the decision on your own without having to pay someone and be subjected to false claims and wasted money. I understand the budget of an independent musician.

Please feel free to subscribe to my newsletter in the header in the top right corner of this page and get exclusive online strategies that you cannot find on the blog, as well as workbooks.

How Can I Help You?

I am always available to discuss helping one another. I am a true believer in community help, team work, networking and building relationships.

Our Differences make us great.

Please Read This Carefully

I am not a marketing guru or expert, I am a curious blogger who loves to discuss music marketing. I know the feeling of having someone find your music and appreciate it. It is great.

These strategies take hard work, time and a lot of patience. I speak only from my experiences and learning from case studies.

Thank you for taking this time to read it and  I hope to see you on the blog soon. To connect with me please feel free to email me any questions or comments. Join me on Twitter and introduce yourself. I look forward to networking with independent musicians all over the world and discussing how we can make our mark in a music industry that doesn’t need the big record label backing.
