Hi. I am Patrick LaForge.

At The New York Times, I lead the Express Team, a digital rewrite desk responsible for breaking news, social media reporting and new forms of digital story-telling. (We're always looking for experienced reporters who understand both serious breaking news and social media; drop me a line.)

I have been at The Times since 1997, and spent a dozen years on the Metro Desk, working on numerous major stories, including Pulitzer Prize-winning coverage of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks and the scandal that prompted the resignation of Gov. Eliot Spitzer of New York. I was the founding editor of the City Room blog.

From 2009 to 2015,  I was the head of the News Presentation Department, working with three successive executive editors (Bill Keller, Jill Abramson and Dean Baquet) and their mastheads to integrate the print and digital newsrooms, redefining the work of copy editors, producers and news desk editors. I was also part of the editorial team that worked on the fifth edition of the Times stylebook.

I was one of the first Times journalists on Twitter, pioneering its use as news source. And that is the easiest place to find me. I am happy to respond to civil comments. I also have a public Facebook page. I am @palafo on Peach.

If you have a complaint or correction about something in The Times, please write to the official newsroom email, nytnews@nytimes.com. The editors there will see that the matter reaches the appropriate people more quickly than I could.

If you do send me an email, or tweet at me, and I don't reply immediately, or at all, please accept my apology in advance and don't take it personally. If I answered every single inquiry in detail, I'd never get anything done.
