SHERPA/RoMEO for Publishers, on the 20th July 2011, at BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, London

June 20, 2011 on 10:47 am | In romeo event | 1 Comment

We are delighted to announce our latest event:  SHERPA/RoMEO for Publishers, on the 20th July 2011, at BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, London. Registration is Free of Charge

This one day  event will bring together the repository and  publisher communities to open a fruitful dialogue, allowing both perspectives to be examined aiming at reaching a new understanding and more productive relationship going forward.

The day will provide an overview of open access, and summarise the issues for publishers and learned societies. It will outline the way repository managers use RoMEO to obtain publisher copyright information and the importance to everyone of that information being accurate; it will also introduce ways in which RoMEO can help publishers optimise their policies for their chosen business model.

The day will include sessions on:

·        Publishers perspective of Open Access and benefits of working with RoMEO

·         Repository administrator’s perspective of interpreting publisher policies

·         An introduction to the RoMEO policy generation tool

A free lunch and refreshments will be provided.

For more information please don’t hesitate to get in touch with Jane Smith Jane.H.Smith@nottingham.ac.uk . Our program and booking form can be found here:

www.rsp.ac.uk/events/romeo-for-publishers/

This event is being organised by the Repository Support Project in conjunction with SHERPA/RoMEO.

RoMEO’s Minute of Madness

June 9, 2011 on 4:48 pm | In Uncategorized | No Comments

Our poster entitled ’SHERPA/RoMEO Journals Beta 3.6‘ presented at Open Repositories 2011 was introduced during the conference’s Minute Madness session with the following poem:

Archiving is a tale of woe
Without the help of RoMEO.
It may seem simple at first sight
To work out who owns copyright,
But when you publish you may find
You have to give up what is thine.

Your publisher may or may not
Let you deposit what you wrote
And many make you wait a year
If you’re prepared to persevere.
Yet others think they’re being nice
To let you archive for a price.

Now RoMEO will help you see
The essence of their policies,
Plus what it is they really mean
When things are not quite what they seem
And RoMEO has grown again
Since we last spoke at OR10.

We’ve built a journals database
And modified our interface.
More journals and more policies,
More timeliness and clarity.
Which makes our data more precise
When you are searching for advice.

Our data yields the evidence
To advocate with confidence.
And we’ve produced a chart that’s new
That shows what journals let you do
So take a look, and you will see
Good news for your repository.

Peter (with apologies to The Bard)

RoMEO at OAI7

May 18, 2011 on 12:44 pm | In Event, International, cris | No Comments

Both Peter and Azhar will be attending the CERN workshop on Innovations in Scholarly Communication  (OAI7) in June.

Peter will be presenting a poster on How SHERPA/RoMEO lubricates the CRIS Publication List –  Repository Interface

This poster will give an overview of how RoMEO is used in CRIS and bibliographic applications. It will also outline the technical issues surrounding them, offer efficiency tips, and discuss some of the ways in which the RoMEO API could be improved to make CRIS-repository interfaces even slicker.

They are both interested in talking to fellow delegates about all aspects of RoMEO.

May 13, 2011 on 9:20 am | In Event, International, Journals, Language, Presentations, Sustainability | No Comments

After a nice break for Easter and the Royal Wedding, we are gearing up to attend the summers’ conferences.

First up is Open Repositories 2011, Austin, Texas, where we will have 3 posters presentations.

  • RoMEO International Partnerships – Covering the results of existing partnerships and how we hope to improve the facilities for our partners.
  • SHERPA/RoMEO Journals – Progress on our own journal database and the trials and tribbles involved.
  • Developing a sustainable Business Model for SHERPA RoMEO (issues, challenges and lessons learnt) – It’s a recession! We need to survive, so we’ll be discussing the development of a sustainable model.

Open Repositories gives us the chance to catch up with colleagues on the cliff face as well as developers, from around the world. Allowing us to discuss how best we can help them do their job and how they can assist us in improving the coverage of RoMEO. At OR10, in Madrid we met up with colleagues from Blimunda to discuss our partnership – more about that and other collaborations in our poster above!

We will all be this conference, so please get in touch if you want to discuss anything with us, and we will try and arrange time to chat.
