Beware of cheap Chinese carbon wheels and avoid carbonspeedcycle at all costs

Monday, 28 July 2014 15:40 by Ben

I wouldn’t usually post anything like this on this on here but I wanted to give this issue some exposure, so here we go.

I was out on Saturday when my front wheel — rim, not tyre — exploded under normal riding conditions. Fortunately, I was slowing due to a rear wheel puncture when it blew, so I didn’t crash. But I could have! Imagine if it happened on one the 60kph descents I was riding that day?

Here are some pics of the damage:

There was no warning the wheel was under stress, no buckles or bulges — they were actually remarkably impressive wheels until this happened. It was a very hot day, which obviously played a part, but this still shouldn’t happen. The fact that my rims gave way before my lightweight 160 gram tyres, shows how weak they were.

My advice: avoid ebay seller carbonspeedcycle and anything from a seller called Helin Liu on AliExpress (or anywhere else).

I’ve blogged more about this on Google+ here and recorded a carbon wheelset youtube ‘review’ here.

Holbeck Ghyll Hotel's New Responsive Website

Thursday, 14 March 2013 16:49 by Ben

Invosoft have recently launched a newly revamped website for the Holbeck Ghyll Country house Hotel.  The Holbeck Ghyll is one of the finest traditional country house hotels in the UK, with one of the very best restaurants in the North West, accredited with Michelin Star status.

spacer

The brief for Invosoft was to create a much more sales oriented website; one which showcased all the Holbeck Ghyll has to offer, is user friendly, high quality, SEO optimized and - best of all - fully responsive in design.  Fully responsive means it dynamically reacts to any screen size: desktop, tablet or mobile.

The site has already achieved a significant increase in booking conversions and general enquiries.  To achieve this we created custom easy to widgets which can be dropped into the CMS content easily by the Holbeck Ghyll staff.

SEO optimisations include big multi-level menus, a dedicated news section and seamless Twitter and Facebook integration.

The site also features a live Lake District ‘Fell Cam’ and a continually updated special offers section.

Andrew McPherson, General Manager at Holbeck Ghyll commented on the site “We are overjoyed with the work Invosoft have done.  The site looks fantastic and we have already seen a big increase in traffic and bookings.”

Advanced Link Manager Software Review

Wednesday, 9 January 2013 10:48 by Jim

Following on from our review of Advanced Web Ranking, here is our review for it's companion software, Advanced Link Manager.

When you come across a piece of software designed to analyse your site’s ability to rank on Google, many questions come to the foreground for today’s SEO marketers. Advanced Link Manager ticks all the boxes on being your link building campaign buddy.  So, what features are offered by Advanced Link Manager?

1. Quickly view all inbound links connecting to your web pages. Since the penguin update, it is important to be aware of any low quality links. This is accompanied by a back links and search engine evolution chart for all the links. The reports show any broken links and indexed links. This is invaluable data for effective link building campaigns.

2. Competitor analysis is important and Advanced Link Manager shows a comparison between your site and your top competitors. This way you can add a competitor site and compare your back links to that competitor. If the competitor is ranking above you for a certain keyword, this part of the tool will show you what links the competing site used.

3. The tool seamlessly allows you to search for link partners by keyword. Partnering with a relevant niche site such as a blog or news site that has higher PR and more traffic can boost the search engine optimisation of your site. You can then email those partners and request a link exchange via the tool’s own email composer.

4. You can manage multiple projects at a time, a very appealing aspect for SEO teams. If you have a number of projects, each can be updated quickly for reports. The reports can be fully customised to contain your logo in the header and footer before emailing to clients. The user can also schedule the reports to be generated on specific dates.

5. The tool integrates with Google maps allowing you to filter all sites by keywords related to the Google 10 pack into the tool for analysis.

6. A web crawler will scan your site and report the number of outbound links, the META tag data and page sizes. You can then export the data as a Google sitemap containing all indexed links analysed to be uploaded to your server.

7. The software has its own proxy servers for the very busy SEO guy. There is no need to worry about Google bans as a result of extensive keyword searches. This is very appealing to SEO departments needing to work on several projects at a time.

spacer

Advanced Link Manager is very easy to follow. Before looking at the tutorials, you can sift easily from one link campaign to another. An SEO team can quickly perform keywords analysis with tools allowing further analysis of search engine traffic to view how well links are working and then run a quick report off. The learning curve is really quite low unlike so many SEO packages floating around the web.

Part of the competitor data allows you to monitor their back links. So, if one is ranking above you, the data shows you how their back links were chosen.

Google’s Penguin update recently shook the online world by penalising sites stuffing keywords, being too optimised, and linking to spammy sites. The links report shows all your top back links and also anchor text links so you can look for any bad sites in the eyes of Google.

Advanced Link Manager is the top choice for today’s online businesses wanting to monitor and improve link building and SEO firms needing thorough analysis of every marketing effort. The Advanced Link Manager tool is part of the whole Advanced Web Ranking package available for the main platforms: windows, Linux and Mac OS X. The different versions are standard, Professional, Enterprise and Server.

Advanced Web Ranking Software Review

Friday, 2 March 2012 14:16 by Jim

If you’re interested in SEO then you probably already know that trying to monitor the keywords on your website can be a time consuming task. For example, if you want to check where you stand or who your main competitors are using 15 keywords or key phrases and you’re checking only five different search engines... well, you know how time consuming even searching a handful of engines can get.

So you want to simplify the process? Generate ranking reports without spending hours trawling through different web pages? See where your website stands at a few simple clicks of your mouse? In the Invosoft office, we've been trying out some software that purports to do just that. Advanced Web Ranking is a tool for both website owners and those in the business of SEO consultancy. There’s no limit to the amount of keywords, websites and search engines you can add to different projects and no additional charge for doing it. Just tell the program what you want it to do and let it get to work. A nice feature is that it integrates seamlessly with Google Analytics to give you further insight into the people landing on your page. Also, as you gather information over time you can generate reports to compare results over different time periods and identify where trends are declining or improving.
spacer
In fact, there are many different types of reports you can generate using the program: current rank, keyword rank, search engine rank, top sites, overview, visibility... the list goes on. In fact, if there’s a downside to Advanced Web Ranking it’s that there are almost too many features. While the interface is undeniably intuitive, there are so many options to select from that setting up your first project can be an intimidating task. Luckily, there are great help resources on the website. Not only is there an online forum where you can get support and feedback from other users, for more serious problems there are dedicated help lines for UK customers and an online ticketing system where you can track the progress in resolving your issue.

However, it’s not perfect. If you start using the program to run large queries you might find it starts to run more slowly than you’re used to. You’ve got to be doing some pretty serious tracking to get to this stage so if you do it might be worth setting up a second machine dedicated to running the program.

If you want a program that’s going to take care of tracking your ranking, linking and analytics there really are few programs that compare in terms of features. The various reports you can generate are of a highly professional quality and, to the joy of all consultants, you can set Advanced Web Ranking to regularly generate and send reports to your clients so they can see just how much your work is increasing their online visibility. At the end of the day, this complete seo software is definitely worth giving a try and as the first 30 days are free there’s nothing to lose.
