Marvel Teases 'Astonishing X-Men' by Greg Pak & Mike McKone and More 'Four'

Marvel Comics has been having a good time this week teasing a number of new publishing events to take place later this year. So far we've seen artwork in support of a relaunched Uncanny X-Men and Wolverine and the X-Men and what we strongly suspect will be the publication of Fantastic Four #600. The publisher released Wednesday an additional Fantastic Four teaser in the form of Joe Quesada's recent work (whose creation we documented here) as well as an image hyping Astonishing X-Men by writer Greg Pak and artist Mike McKone. Their run begins in November's issue #44 and appears to romantically link Cyclops with Storm, who appears in her right and proper 1980s leather punk look.

Minimalist Marvel Comics Posters by Marko Manev [Art]

Just when we thought we were fed up with the minimalist poster fad, we come across some material that's actually quite great. Such is the case with this series of Marvel Comics posters created by Marko Manev, a Macedonia-based designer and illustrator. Manev hits all the big guns but goes nitty-gritty by producing posters for each member of the Fantastic Four, several Spider-men and a few of the individual X-persons as well. Beyond the graphic simplicity, Manev's posters are distressed to make it seem like they're the sort of cool promotional item you might find folded up in a comics shop storeroom and want to take home. Luckily you can do just that, as Manev is selling prints of his work right here. Check out his full Marvel catalogue after the jump.

Not a lot has been revealed about Jamie Reyes' upcoming adventures in the "New 52" kicking off September 21 in Blue Beetle #1, but it's pretty clear themes of family, friendship and using sinister alien tech for good will still be strong components of the new status quo. DC Comics has provided ComicsAlliance with another piece of the BB puzzle with an exclusive first-look at Blue Beetle #3, however, which shows three foes the hero will face care of writer Tony Bedard, artists Ig Guara and Ruy Jose and cover artists Tyler Kirkham and Sal Regla. See the full cover to Blue Beetle #3 after the cut.

In this photo by Emily Jackett, a man someone photographs (or videos) a car burning in East End of London during the recent riots while wearing a V for Vendetta mask, which has become a symbol of faceless protest for hacktivist groups like Anonymous. The photo is a reminder of how easily mindless violence and chaos can graft themselves on to symbols and movements that originate in justified anger and non-violent resistance, hurting not only innocent people in the process but also the symbols and causes they would co-opt. One of the great and unique things about comics as an art form is the readers' ability to bring the combination of words and images to live at whatever speed and in whatever manner they choose, but at Comic-Con 2011 this year, ComicsAlliance asked a series of creators to give us a live interpretation of their own comics in a series of Dramatic Readings.

First up: Writer Mark Waid reading aloud from Irredeemable, his "What if Superman went bad?" book from Boom! Studios. In this scene, Waid steps into the role of the Plutonian, a seemingly omnipotent Superman-esque hero turned villain who uses his powers to instill a sense of fear and paranoia into the world-wide populace after murdering millions.

'Hellboy: The Fury' is an Event Comic that Delivers [Spoiler-Free Review]

On sale now is the third and final issue of Hellboy: The Fury, the miniseries that concludes a myriad of stories, themes and even collaborations within the epic and unimpeachably excellent Hellboy saga by Mike Mignola and Dark Horse Comics, specifically those created with Duncan Fegredo. Where other "event" comics promise a conclusion to long-gestating plots and an aftermath that will "never be the same" as what's come before, The Fury truly, truly delivers -- and in such a way that's almost traumatizing for the longtime reader, but exhilarating for the relative newcomer.

If you're a fan of Cartoon Network's Adventure Time -- and the record will show that we here at ComicsAlliance definitely are -- then you're probably already a fan of Natasha Allegri. She's worked as an artist and character designer for the show, and even holds the distinction of creating Fionna and Cake, the gender-swapped (and in Cake's case, species-swapped) versions of the show's lead characters.

The ladystyle versions of Finn and Jake are set to star in an upcoming episode that features an entire gender-swapped Adventure Time universe that will see Princess Bubblegum and the Ice King swapped out for a Prince and a Queen, Marceline replaced with Marshall Lee, and the multicolored Lady Rainicorn swapped out for the all-black Lord Monochromicorn. Check out a truly algebraic clip from the episode and more of Allegri's incredible art below!
