Recently, a study of bike trail use near Grand Teton National Park showed that biking & hiking trails which cost $1.7 million resulted in 18 million in spending over 10 years. Most trail users are mountain bike riders and come from other states and countries.
Granted, tourists are cycling these trails to enjoy the incredible beauty of the Tetons; however, it does go to show that trail investment can pay off handsomely under the right circumstances.
