Introducing our new Walgrove Principal
Walgrove Community,
We are pleased to announce that Ms. Olivia Adams has accepted the position of Principal for Walgrove Avenue Elementary School. Ms. Adams was the unanimous recommendation of the Principal selection committee, comprised of parent, teacher and staff representatives at Walgrove. The Committee reviewed over 20 resumes for the position, interviewed seven candidates and were in unanimous agreement that Ms. Adams was the right person for the job.
Ms. Adams comes to us from San Pascual Elementary School, located in the Highland Park area of northeast Los Angeles. She has been the active Principal at San Pascual for the past two years and also served as Assistant Principal at Mayberry Street Elementary for four years (Echo Park) and for Carthay Center Elementary (Mid-Wilshire area) for another two years. In addition to her time as an LAUSD administrator, Ms. Adams has been a teacher (Braddock Drive Elementary and Westwood Charter Elementary), as well as a Program Advisor at Selma Avenue Elementary.
Aside from Ms. Adams' qualification as a sitting Principal, experienced Administrator and a teacher of diverse programs and students, she also has her Masters of Education from UCLA, she is bi-lingual in Spanish and also has great experience in Special Education teaching and programs. Ms. Adams' is also a resident of the Westside, which she said is a vitally important ingredient to being an active and involved leader at Walgrove.
So, it is with heartfelt thanks that we acknowledge the contributions of Mrs. Arlene Fortier, our outgoing Principal, and welcome Ms. Adams to Walgrove with open arms. We believe she already posseses "the Walgrove spirit" and is ready to hit the ground running and continue to advance the tremendous efforts made by the students, teachers, staff, parents and community members of Walgrove.
Specific transition plans have not been determined, but as we come closer to the beginning of the school year, we expect to be able to announce specific dates and events to officially introduce Ms. Adams to the Walgrove Community.
Thank you so much for your vested involvement in this process and in your continued support of Walgrove Elementary.
-Steve Dean and the other members of the Principal Selection Committee
