GRAS Status Given to Qmatrix®

Posted May 3rd, 2010

Aloe vera grower/supplier Aloecorp has announced self-affirmed GRAS (generally recognized as safe) status for its Qmatrix Aloe vera.

The company said an “expert panel” has reviewed its recently published safety data and concluded that Aloecorp’s Aloe vera Qmatrix ingredient is GRAS for use in foods in the US. Aloecorp is the first company to get self affirmed GRAS status in the aloe ingredient industry.
“As part of the self-determination process, the expert panel was provided extensive ingredient information including the background of the ingredient, usage history, summary of anticipated daily intake and literature research,” said KS Yoon, President and CEO.

Aloecorp Vice President and Chief Science Officer, Ken Jones, said: “GRAS status significantly expands applications of Qmatrix to include its use in foods and beverages.  Achieving self-affirmed GRAS status for our Qmatrix Aloe vera ingredient enables manufacturers to now use our products in a wide range of foods and beverages. This is a great opportunity to offer the benefits of aloe to the food industry and contribute to consumers' overall health."

Aloecorp will be exhibiting at the upcoming IFT Show in Chicago, IL this July.
