Sofia Coppola’s Getting Married Tomorrow! What We Know About the Wedding, Plus a Look Back at Her and Thomas’ Effortless Style

Another style icon and hip musician are getting hitched.

In what promises to be a slightly more under-the-radar ceremony than Mosstock, filmmaker Sofia Coppola will wed her longtime boyfriend and father of her two children, Phoenix frontman Thomas Mars (née Croquet), in Bernalda, Italy tomorrow night. Though, like Mosstock, the ceremony will take place at a family-owned villa in a small village. Here’s everything we know, including dress speculation:

Wild Wild Westward: Kate Spade New York’s New Collab with Emily Current and Meritt Elliott

If Tuesday’s earthquake taught us anything, it’s that certain Californian elements just don’t translate to the Atlantic coast–at least not without a lot of Twitter protest. But when we heard several months ago that Kate Spade New York, purveyor of all things preppy-pretty, was poised to team up with L.A. stylists Emily Current and Meritt Elliot (the same team behind those perfectly slouchy boyfriend jeans) for a special collection, our ears instantly perked up.

On Wednesday night, we headed to Kate Spade New York’s Broome Street boutique to witness the results. From leather-edged envelope clutches sparkling with charcoal-toned sequins to ostrich-skin shoulder bags and logo-free satchels sure to get even better with age and wear, every single piece in the duo’s “Westward” lineup embodies heritage-steeped simplicity.

In between sips of champagne and bites of sliders, we chatted with Kate Spade New York Creative Director Deborah Lloyd about how the collab came about. “It was all about joint admiration,” she said, “plus, my own assistant wears Current/Elliott head-to-toe to work!” Lloyd explains that while us Manhattanites tend to go for a “matching, polished” aesthetic, she loved the notion of adding a Californian touch to her label’s famously girly look. “It was all about the laid-back style and relaxed peace that they brought to the bags, the unusual materials and the mixing-up of things. But you still see those Kate Spade pops of polish and sweetness.”

10 Questions for Project Runway

1. Running shoe fashion– what better way to appeal to the generalized American public?

2. Who knew that a scraped knee could make someone pass out?

3. Joshua, how’d you finally learn to channel your sass into constructive comments? You had many good one-liners this week, though the best one? “Her demographic is 40 to death.”

4. Becky why are you upset that people on the show are acting cliquey? All we can say is, Welcome to Fashion!

Images of the Day: Freja Holds Hands With a Creepy Marina Abramovic Doll and Georgia Jagger is Transformed on Pop

By Dhani Mau Friday, Aug 26, 2011 / 2:45 PM

Three-named beauties Freja Beha Erichsen and Georgia May Jagger grace two of Pop‘s just-released fall covers. Both covers made us do double-takes–Georgia’s because she does not look like herself. She’s still gorgeous, but her amazing blonde hair and sexy rock & roll persona are smothered by a brunette bob wig and yellow organza. What’s up with that?

Freja’s freaked us out because she is holding hands with a creepy doll perched on her shoulder, which we realized is supposed to be in the likeness of performance artist Marina Abramovic, who collaborated with the glossy on three covers (the other two can be seen below). They would definitely catch our attention at a newsstand. How do you think they stack up to former Pop editor Dasha Zhukova’s new mag? Read more »

Brazilian Blowout News: A Ruling on Their Safety is Imminent, Bumble & Bumble and L’Oreal Launching Formaldehyde-Free Versions

The infamous Brazilian blowout–a Keratin-based semi-permanent hair straightening treatment–has gone from hugely popular to hugely controversial due to reports of potentially dangerous levels of formaldehyde found in the treatment. Earlier this year, the US Department of Labor released a hazard alert about the dangers of straightening formulas that contain formaldehyde, causing salons and fans of the treatment (myself included) to question whether or not they’re worth the risk.

According to a report in WWD this morning, a ruling is expected for September 26 or 27 to determine once and for all whether or not these products are safe, based on studies being conducted by the Cosmetic Industry Review.
