Patterns of gene expression in Drosophila embryogenesis

Release 3 + updates

Please note: We have completely rewritten the website and may need to make adjustments that will result in changes to the availability of some of the data or functions for a short time. In the transitional phase, the original site will remain available with all the Release 2 data.

We use high throughput 96-well plate RNA in situ protocol to determine patterns of gene expression during embryogenesis for Drosophila genes represented in non-redundant sets of Drosophila ESTs, the DGC collections and the Drosophila Gold Collection.

At the end of production pipeline gene expression patterns are documented by taking a large number of digital images of individual embryos. The quality and identity of the captured image data are verified by independently derived microarray time-course analysis of gene expression using Affymetrix GeneChip technology (download array data from here).

Gene expression patterns are annotated with controlled vocabulary for developmental anatomy of Drosophila embryogenesis. Image and annotation data are stored in a modified version of Gene Ontology database and the entire dataset is available on the web in browsable and searchable form or can be downloaded from here.

The Summary page summarizes all genes that have in situ images.
