Wireless Burglar Alarms

If you own a smaller house, or an apartment, installing a burglar alarm is usually not that big of a problem, some alarm kits allowing you to install it yourself, without an ounce of help from a professional. If the surface you need protected is larger however, installing it and taking care of all the cables that are inherent to the installation can be a pain. This is when you need to start thinking about getting a wireless burglar alarm system.

Wireless burglar alarm systems, as the name suggests, don’t use any cables at all. Instead, a small radio device is “planted” in a central position in your household (or whatever type of property you’re installing it in), detecting any kind of unwanted movement in a given perimeter (most wireless burglar alarm systems come with a control panel that allows you to adjust this range, but the maximum is usually around 1000 feet or so).

When wireless burglar alarm systems were still at a young age, they were considered to sensitive and they gave too many false alarms and had too many interferences to be considered a viable option for property security. Falling branches, pets or wildlife, all triggered these wireless burglar alarms, which were more of a stress factor by themselves than the actual peril of getting your property invaded. With the help of technological advances however, wireless burglar alarms have evolved to a point where they use heat detectors instead of motion detectors, making the risk of a false alarm considerably lower.

In addition, most modern wireless burglar alarm systems offer the possibility of attaching smoke detectors, auto-dialers, remote alarm center devices and several other features that a normal alarm system would have, all of these without the cable spaghetti that the latter come with. A good wireless burglar alarm system will also have to provide a backup of its own in case of a power failure, so that you don’t need to worry about burglars disabling your alarm by cutting power to your property.

Wireless burglar alarms, although still having minor flaws (especially regarding false alarms and interferences), are the property protection methods of the future. Although they might be more expensive than normal alarm systems, their “clean” look and feel, as well as their wide coverage recommends wireless burglar alarms as an excellent option for larger venues that need to be protected without sacrificing their overall appearance.
