TriMet fares are valid on buses, MAX Light Rail, WES Commuter Rail1 and Portland Streetcar. If you are traveling on MAX or Streetcar within the Free Rail Zone, you can ride for free.

Types of fares

Adult

For ages 18-64. The fare you pay is based on the number of zones you will be traveling in1. Use the Trip Planner to determine the correct fare for your trip.

Honored Citizen

For ages 65+, people on Medicare and people with a disability. Valid for travel in all 3 fare zones. Proof of eligibility required.

Youth

For ages 7-17 and students in high school or pursuing a GED. Valid for travel in all 3 fare zones. Proof of age or student status required. Children 6 and under ride free with paying passenger.

Tickets and passes

2-Hour Ticket

Valid for unlimited rides on buses, MAX, WES1 and Streetcar for up to 2 hours. Single tickets purchased from a ticket machine come pre-validated for immediate use. Note: On the bus, when you use an unvalidated ticket or pay in cash, the operator will give you a transfer receipt valid for at least 1 hour on weekdays or 2 hours on weekends—enough time to complete your trip.

Book of 10 2-Hour Tickets

Valid for unlimited rides on buses, MAX, WES1 and Streetcar for up to 2 hours. Book tickets come unvalidated, so you can use them any time. Note: On the bus, when you use an unvalidated ticket or pay in cash, the operator will give you a transfer receipt valid for at least 1 hour on weekdays or 2 hours on weekends—enough time to complete your trip. 1-Day Pass

Valid for unlimited rides on buses, MAX, WES1 and Streetcar in all 3 fare zones until the end of the service day.

7-Day Pass

Valid for unlimited rides on buses, MAX, WES1 and Streetcar for 7 consecutive calendar days.

14-Day Pass

Valid for unlimited rides on buses, MAX, WES1 and Streetcar for 14 consecutive calendar days. Pre-validated for immediate use, when purchased from a ticket machine.

30-Day Pass

Valid for unlimited rides on buses, MAX, WES1 and Streetcar for 30 consecutive calendar days. Pre-validated for immediate use. Available only at the TriMet Ticket Office at Pioneer Courthouse Square.

Half-Month Pass

Starting on the 15th of the month, you can buy a discounted 1-Month Pass valid for the remainder of the month. Available only at the TriMet Ticket Office at Pioneer Courthouse Square.

1-Month Pass

Valid for unlimited rides on buses, MAX, WES1, Streetcar and Portland Aerial Tram for the entire calendar month. You can buy next month's pass as early as the 20th of this month.

1-Year Pass

A 1-Year Pass is 12 1-Month Passes mailed separately each month. Pay in advance and get a month free (Adult All-Zone and Honored Citizen only). Shipping and handling extra. A Portland Streetcar Annual Pass is also available.

Employer 1-Year Pass

Photo ID with sticker available only from participating employers. Valid for unlimited rides on buses, MAX, WES1, Streetcar and Portland Aerial Tram for 1 year.

Making transfers

With your valid TriMet fare, you can transfer between buses, MAX, WES1 and Streetcar to complete your trip. On the bus, if you pay in cash or use an unvalidated ticket, the operator will give you a transfer receipt (shown at right). Transfer receipts are valid for at least 1 hour on weekdays or 2 hours on weekends. Learn more about transfers

 

1 WES Commuter Rail requires an All-Zone fare.

2 Tickets are good for 2 hours. Bus transfer receipts are valid for at least 1 hour on weekdays or 2 hours on weekends.

3 1-Zone Tickets are also available, but only in books of 10 sold at the TriMet Ticket Office and online in the TriMet Store. A book of 1-Zone Tickets costs 50 cents less than a book of 2-Zone Tickets, so they're a good value if you only travel within 1 zone.
