Love is in the Air (February 5th - 19th) Guide

By Ashelia on 2012/02/04 at 8:50 PM Pacific

Ah, love is in the air in the World of Warcraft: sweet flowers, perfume, and sharing gifts with loved ones! But, what's this? A sinister plot is afoot involving some shady goblin newcomers to the seasonal market--the Crown Chemical Company! It's up to us to help save Azeroth from their chemically altered goods all while spreading love and appreciation to our faction leaders and fellow players!

Love is in the Air starts on February 5 at 3:00 AM and ends on February 19 at 3:00 AM. This holiday can be celebrated by the Horde in Orgrimmar and the Alliance in Stormwind City. Seasonal decorations such as wreaths, candles and ribbons can be found in all major cities and at most zone inns. Players will also find Lovely Merchants, who sell seasonal gifts and goodies.

This year, the event is relatively the same, but Perculia updated the guide with some pics and new info when it hit US servers live.

One important change is that you can now purchase a Swift Lovebird from the vendor for 270 Love Tokens--this is likely to ensure players repeat the event if they're the collecting type. You can also watch the AH--it's BoE! It looks like Truesilver Shafted Arrow is BoE this year as well, while Toxic Wasteling is still not.

Quests

As many of you may remember, the Love is in the Air event was completely redone in 2010, and there are now quests (including daily quests) players can complete to obtain Love Token used to purchase holiday items. Unfortunately as far as 2012 goes, there is nothing new for the questlines.

Main Questline

A main questline of the Love is in the Air event involves the Steamwheedle Cartel and this strange company known as the Crown Chemical Company. The Steamwheedle Cartel suspects there's something shady about these goblin newcomers, and investigators have been hired to get to the bottom of things. The final quest of this chain leads directly into the quest unlocking the daily quest to fight Apothecary Hummel.

  • Uncommon Scents or Uncommon Scents
    Start: Junior Detective
End: Detective Snap Snagglebolt or Inspector Snip Snagglebolt
A junior detective located near the Crown Chemical Co. camps ask Horde players to head out to Orgrimmar to find Detective Snap Snagglebolt and let him know you're interested in helping the Steamwheedle Cartel investigate the Crown Chemical Co. and their actions. Alliance players are sent to meet Inspector Snip Snagglebolt in Stormwind City.

    Something Stinks or Something Stinks
Start & End: Detective Snap Snagglebolt or Inspector Snip Snagglebolt
The goblin investigator will provide you with Snagglebolt's Air Analyzer which you must use to test the air around 6 heavily perfumed guards found throughout the city. Simply use the item on the guards and return to the investigator.

    Pilfering Perfume or Pilfering Perfume
Start & End: Detective Snap Snagglebolt or Inspector Snip Snagglebolt
For this quest, the goblins will have you disguise yourself as a package runner for the Crown Chemical Co., and you must head outside either Orgrimmar or Stormwind City where you'll find a stockpile of the Company's goods. Quickly run by it to have the Crown Chemical Co. Supplies handed off to you before they notice you aren't really on their side, and bring it back to the investigator. For Horde players, the parcels can be found to the left outside of Orgrimmar tucked away in a corner near the city wall. It's best to go find the parcel camps first before accepting the quest as the goblin disguise has only a 2 minute duration during which you are stuck sprinting on foot.

Snivel's Sweetheart or Fireworks At The Gilded Rose
Start: Detective Snap Snagglebolt or Inspector Snip Snagglebolt
    End: Roka or Marion Sutton
Turns out this crate you retrieved contained some sort of chemical-filled rockets, which the goblins recognize as having been crafted by Snivel Rustrocket. You are sent out to find Snivel's alleged girlfriend to get as much information as you can on his wherabouts. Horde players are sent to Roka, at Gotri's Travelling Goods in Orgrimmar's Drag while Alliance players can find Marion Sutton at the Gilded Rose in Stormwind City's Trade District

Hot On The Trail or Hot On The Trail
Start & End: Roka or Marion Sutton
Well, turns out Snivel has flown the coop! The distraught (but mostly annoyed) ladies send you on a hunt for that lying goblin Snivel and have you search the bank, auction house and barber shop of your faction's respective city (Orgrimmar or Stormwind City).

A Friendly Chat... or A Friendly Chat...
    Start: Roka or Marion Sutton
    End: Snivel Rustrocket
After no luck finding the goblin on any of his errands, the ladies suspect that he's now on his way out for a nice escape to the South Seas--you've got to stop him! Horde players must head out to the East zeppelin tower (the one that leads to Eastern Kingdoms) and Alliance players to the Stormwind Harbor in attempt to stop Snivel and get some information before he's gone for good. Simply talk to him and you'll get Snivel's Ledger. Bring this Ledger back to Snip or Snap and this chain leads into Man on the Inside or Man on the Inside, and the inevitable defeat of Apothecary Hummel, the seasonal event boss.

  • Something is in the Air (and it Ain't Love) or Something is in the Air (and it Ain't Love)
Start: Faded Lovely Greeting Card or Faded Lovely Greeting Card
End: Detective Snap Snagglebolt or Inspector Snip Snagglebolt
Upon making it to Shadowfang Keep and discovering the Apothecaries within, players will receive this greeting card detailing the Crown Chemical Co.'s plans to infect all of Azeroth with their perfumed plague (and gain back their established market exploiting holidays for gold)! Simply bring it to Snap or Snip and the quest chain ends rather abruptly and unceremoniously.

Random Daily Quests

The Crown Chemical Company would like for you to share their new products with the denizens of Azeroth to help establish their role as a new provider of quality holiday goods. One of these daily quests will be randomly available each day of the event. Those hearts you're seeing everywhere are the result of players who have sampled one of the Chemical Company's products--therefore, any quest item used on a player with a heart (and Sample Satisfaction debuff) will not grant quest credit.
  • A Cloudlet of Classy Cologne
Start & End: Public Relations Agent
The Crown Chemical Company would like you to test out their Crown Perfume Sprayer on 10 different people. You will be rewarded with 5x Love Token.
  • A Perfect Puff of Perfume
Start & End: Public Relations Agent
The Crown Chemical Company would like you to test out their Crown Cologne Sprayer on 10 different people. You will be rewarded with 5x Love Token.
  • Bonbon Blitz
Start & End: Public Relations Agent
The Crown Chemical Company would like you to toss samples from the Crown Chocolate Sampler to 10 different people. You will be rewarded with 5x Love Token.

Daily: Crushing the Crown

The Steamwheedle Cartel need all the help they can get in eradicating the Crown Chemical Co. and their sinister plot. Players level 5 and higher can obtain a daily quest pitting them against mobs their level. The quest you get is dependent on your current level, and your faction. For this daily, you must kill five of the Crown NPCs in the designated zone and use Snagglebolt's Khorium Bomb to destroy a nearby chemical wagon.

Daily: Gifts to Faction Leaders

This year, instead of the complicated Gift Collections being gathered and presented to the respective faction leaders, players will instead be asked to create and turn in Lovely Charm Bracelets. These bracelets can be created by obtaining a Lovely Charm Collector's Kit, which you can get from Kwee Q. Peddlefeet located near the Crown Chemical Co.'s camp, found outside of auction houses in each of the major cities.

Once you have obtained this item, you will then be able to gather Lovely Charms from "worthwhile enemies"--any enemy you kill that is "honorable" (green or higher difficulty) has a chance to create a Lovely Charm. At this time, you must land the killing blow on the enemy in order to gain a charm. Combining 10 Lovely Charms will create a single Lovely Charm Bracelet, which, upon accepting a daily quest, can be turned in to the faction leader of your choice. You can turn in each of the four faction leader daily quests once per day.

Start: Kwee Q. Peddlefeet
End: Faction leader of your choice (depends on quest)
  • A Gift for the Warchief - Repeatable daily quest. Awards Love Token x5 and a Lovely Orgrimmar Card
  • A Gift for the Banshee Queen - Repeatable daily quest. Awards Love Token x5 and a Lovely Undercity Card
  • A Gift for the High Chieftain - Repeatable daily quest. Awards Love Token x5 and a Lovely Thunder Bluff Card
  • A Gift for the Regent Lord of Quel'Thalas - Repeatable daily quest. Awards Love Token x5 and a Lovely Silvermoon City Card

Start: Kwee Q. Peddlefeet
End: Faction leader of your choice (depends on quest)
  • A Gift for the King of Stormwind - Repeatable daily quest. Awards Love Token x5 and a Lovely Stormwind Card
  • A Gift for a Lord of Ironforge - Repeatable daily quest. Awards Love Token x5 and a Lovely Ironforge Card
  • A Gift for the High Priestess of Elune - Repeatable daily quest. Awards Love Token x5 and a Lovely Darnassus Card
  • A Gift for the Prophet - Repeatable daily quest. Awards Love Token x5 and a Lovely Exodar Card

Boss: Apothecary Hummel

Once again, players will be able to access the event-only boss located in Shadowfang Keep--Apothecary Hummel!

a

Players can queue up for the encounter by speaking to Steamwheedle Shyster, located in Stormwind City or in Orgrimmar.

As usual for this holiday, players will be able to engage in a 5-man fight for the safety of Azeroth from this conniving trio of chemists! Although the loot sadly isn't changed from last year, making those necklaces pretty useless to all but new players, there are still tons of rare goodies such as the elusive Big Love Rocket!

Fight Overview

Apothecary Hummel, Apothecary Baxter and Apothecary Frye can be found in Shadowfang Keep at the main "outdoor" area of the keep, near the stabled horses. You need to be level 84 to queue up for this encounter. The fight is fairly straightforward, and seems much more confusing than it really is. On a nearby table, you will find the Perfume Neutralizer and Cologne Neutralizer. Loot the scents you plan on using for the fight.

First, select either the cologne or perfume and use it. This will apply a buff that negates all damage from the chosen source.
  • Perfume Neutralizer creates a purple aura and makes you immune to Alluring Perfume and Alluring Perfume Spray.
  • Cologne Neutralizer creates a green aura and makes you immune to Irresistible Cologne and Irresistible Cologne Spray.

There are three total apothecaries in the encounter:
  • Apothecary Hummel - Uses Alluring Perfume and has the melee-range aura Alluring Perfume Spray. His damage can be nullified by use of Perfume Neutralizer.
  • Apothecary Baxter - Uses Irresistible Cologne and and has the melee-range aura Irresistible Cologne Spray. His damage can be nullified by use of Cologne Neutralizer.
  • Apothecary Frye - Runs around throwing bottles of perfume and cologne on the ground, creating dangerous clouds where they land. He drops threat and basically just runs around wreaking havoc.

The fight is relatively simple and can be completed by a group with as few as two well-geared players. Simply have one person in your party "tank" Hummel, applying Perfume Neutralizer to nullify the damage of his attacks and another player tank Baxter, using the Cologne Neutralizer. Frye cannot be tanked and will spend the entire fight throwing cologne/perfume bottles and switching aggro. None of the apothecaries deal significant melee damage (~300), and could probably be "tanked" by any class provided they're wearing the appropriate scent. They can also be stunned, so a rogue can probably keep the more annoying Apothecary Frye stunlocked.

The other three players in your party can apply whichever scent they'd like, just being cautious to avoid opposite-colored clouds on the ground (they're actually somewhat difficult to see, and cause ridiculous damage if you stand in them). Players should also try to stay away from the opposite-colored boss, as Hummel and Baxter have a melee-range aura that can cause serious damage if you're in range too long. Also, "tanks" should face their apothecaries away from the rest of the group to avoid spraying them. If your poison or cologne buff runs out mid-fight simply use the item again to reapply the buff.

Throughout the fight, both Hummel and Baxter will start working at small alchemy labs they pull out of who knows where, eventually causing a Chain Reaction which will hit anyone in the area for ~9k damage. Also, Crazed Apothecary will spawn endlessly, running wildly for a few seconds before exploding in a Unstable Reaction dealing around ~3k damage to anybody nearby. These adds die upon exploding and cannot be tanked or controlled, so you'll probably end up getting hit a few times.

Kill all three of the apothecaries (in any order), and the loot can be found on the body of Apothecary Hummel.

Loot is in the Air

Amulets
As with last year, Apothecary Hummel will drop item level 346 amulets! These amulets are sadly not updated, making their ilevel a bit disappointing compared to what heroics offer.
  • Winking Eye of Love
  • Heartbreak Charm
  • Shard of Pirouetting Happiness
  • Sweet Perfume Broach
  • Choker of the Pure Heart

Seasonal Items

The first time you defeat Apothecary Hummel, you will receive a Heart-Shaped Box that contains the boss' "fun" items. This could include a fancy rose for your character's hair, a gas mask, a non-combat oozeling companion, or an item so powerful it can break your heart! You can get more than one of these items per box, but you can only get one box per character per day. You'll also receive 5-10 Love Tokens--new to 2012.

  • Forever-Lovely Rose
  • Vile Fumigator's Mask
  • Toxic Wasteling
  • The Heartbreaker

Big Love Rocket
As if those things were cool enough, the Heart-Shaped Box has an extremely low chance to drop the most stylish flying mount ever - the Big Love Rocket!

  • Big Love Rocket

Upon defeating the boss for the first time, he will drop a Faded Lovely Greeting Card which starts the quest Something is in the Air (and it Ain't Love). This quest has you return to Snap Snagglebolt in Orgrimmar or Snip Snagglebolt in Stormwind.

Seasonal Goodies

Most of the items required for seasonal achievements can be purchased from seasonal vendors, using Love Token. This currency can be acquired through completion of Love is in the Air daily quests.

Be sure to do your dailies this year if you're a collector! As I said earlier, Swift Lovebird is a brand new reward from these vendors and it costs tons of tokens. So save up and buy your bird before love is no longer in the air. Players have reported that if you're on the Darkmoon quest Test Your Strength, you might not be able to collect the Lovely Charm concurrently. Some Wrath farming spots are still great for farming this--check out the comment section for details.

Lovely Merchants can be found in every capital city selling seasonal goodies:

Achievements

With each event comes seasonal achievements! For Love in the Air, there are 12 different challenges for players and a player title granted to those who can achieve them all--the Love Fool! Thankfully, many of these achievements are easy to get!
  • Fool For Love or Fool For Love
This achievement can be found in the main World Events achievement category and is awarded upon completion of every Love is in the Air achievement except Perma-Peddle, Tough Love and Lovely Luck Is On Your Side. These achievements should be easier this year as most items required can now be purchased from seasonal vendors. This achievement awards the player title 'The Love Fool' and is a requirement towards completion of What A Long, Strange Trip It's Been (Alliance version) which rewards the Reins of the Violet Proto-Drake.
  • Be Mine!
Eat the eight "Bag of Candies" heart candies listed below.
For this achievement, you must eat one of each of the randomly generated message candies found inside a Bag of Heart Candies. The Bag of Heart Candies has 10 charges, and it can be purchased from a Lovely Merchant.
  • Charming
    Create 12 Lovely Charm Bracelets.
For this achievement, you must create a total of 12 Lovely Charm Bracelet, which are created by combining 10 Lovely Charms each. In order to acquire these charms, you must obtain a Lovely Charm Collector's Kit from Kwee Q. Peddlefeet located at the Crown Chemical Co.'s camps found outside of major city auction houses.
  • Dangerous Love
Assist the Steamwheedle Cartel in stopping the sinister Crown Chemical Co. plot.
For this achievement, you must complete one of the Crushing the Crown daily quests offered by Detective Snap Snagglebolt in Orgrimmar or Inspector Snip Snagglebolt in Stormwind. There is a specific daily quest available to characters of every level range, with the lowest level quest being made available to players at least level 5 and the highest to players level 81 or above. This quest simply requires you to destroy a chemical wagon and kill five Crown Chemical Co. baddies found around it.
  • Fistful of Love
Use a Handful of Rose Petals on each of the race/class combinations listed below.
For this achievement, you must use a Handful of Rose Petals on each of the following race/class combinations. The Handful of Rose Petals can be purchased with Love Token from a Lovely Merchant.

    Gnome WarlockOrc Death Knight
    Human Death KnightNight Elf Priest
    Orc ShamanTauren Druid
    Undead WarriorTroll Rogue
    Blood Elf MageDraenei Paladin
    Dwarf Hunter

  • Flirt With Disaster or Flirt With Disaster
Get completely smashed, put on your best perfume, throw a handful of rose petals on Jeremiah Payson or Sraaz and then kiss him. You'll regret it in the morning.
To complete this achievement, Horde players must get completely smashed, use one of the seasonal perfumes, throw a Handful of Rose Petals on Jeremiah Payson and the /kiss him. Alliance players must get completely smashed, use one of the seasonal perfumes, throw a Handful of Rose Petals on Sraaz and then /kiss him. Obviously the best way to get completely smashed would be through massive consumption of Strong Alcohol, but enough of any alcoholic beverage will do the trick. Simply drink to your heart's content until you receive the message that your character is smashed, and you're set! Handful of Rose Petals and your choice of a perfume can be purchased from a Lovely Merchant.
  • I Pitied The Fool
Pity the Love Fool in the locations specified below.
For this achievement, you (or another player) must use Love Fool in each of the five listed zones, and then /pity the Love Fool that is created. The zones in which you must do this are Wintergrasp, Arathi Basin Blacksmith, Naxxramas, Battle Ring of Gurubashi Arena and The Culling of Stratholme. The Love Fool can be purchased from a Lovely Merchant.
  • Lonely?
Enjoy a Buttermilk Delight with someone in Dalaran at a Romantic Picnic during the Love is in the Air celebration.
For this achievement, you can either join someone in Dalaran who has used their Romantic Picnic Basket, or you can use your own and have someone else join you. Once you have used the Romantic Picnic and acquired the buff, you must then eat a Buttermilk Delight candy, which can be obtained from a Box of Chocolates.
  • Lovely Luck Is On Your Side
Open a Lovely Dress Box and receive a Lovely Black Dress.
For this achievement, you must loot a Lovely Black Dress from a Lovely Dress Box, which I assume has a chance to drop any of the Lovely Dresses. This item can be purchased from a Lovely Merchant.
  • My Love is Like a Red, Red Rose
Obtain a Bouquet of Red or Ebon Roses during the Love is in the Air celebration.
For this achievement, you need to obtain either a Bouquet of Red Roses or Bouquet of Ebon Roses. In 2012, they only drop from select Cata bosses on heroic or normal difficulty: Drahga Shadowburner in Grim Batol, Corla, Herald of Twilight in Blackrock Caverns, High Priestess Azil in The Stonecore, Admiral Ripsnarl in Deadmines, and Lord Godfrey in Shadowfang Keep.
  • Nation of Adoration or Nation of Adoration
Complete the Lovely Charm Bracelet daily quest for each Horde or Alliance capital.
For this achievement, you must complete each of the different 'A Gift for the...' quests available to your faction. To do this, you must obtain a Lovely Charm Collector's Kit, collect a total of 40 Lovely Charms and create 4 Lovely Charm Bracelets, one for each of your faction's leaders. This shouldn't be a problem, as you will already want to be creating the Lovely Charm Bracelets for Charming and will want to complete these dailies to earn enough Love Token to purchase necessary event items!
  • Perma-Peddle
Obtain a permanent Peddlefeet pet by procuring a Truesilver Shafted Arrow.
For this achievement, you must purchase the Truesilver Shafted Arrow with Love Token from a Lovely Merchant. This item will teach you to summon the companion pet Peddlefeet.
  • Shafted!
Shoot 10 players with the Silver Shafted Arrow.
For this achievement, all you have to do is use a Silver Shafted Arrow on 10 players. You can purchase Silver Shafted Arrow from a Lovely Merchant.
  • Sweet Tooth
Sample the Love is in the Air candies listed below.
For this achievement, you need to consume each of the four candies found within Box of Chocolates.
  • The Rocket's Pink Glare
Shoot off 10 Love Rockets in 20 seconds or less.
For this achievement, you need to use 10 Love Rocket in 20 seconds (or less). Simply hotkey the rockets and spam away! The Love Rocket can be purchased from a Lovely Merchant.
  • Tough Love
Defeat the trio of Crown Chemical Co. apothecaries in Shadowfang Keep.
For this achievement, you must complete the quest You've Been Served inside Shadowfang Keep and defeat Apothecary Hummel and his cronies. This is an event-only boss, similar to Coren Direbrew during Brewfest.
  • Big Love Rocket
Obtain the Big Love Rocket from Apothecary Hummel in Shadowfang Keep during Love is in the Air.
This is not an achievement, but a Feat of Strength awarded for obtaining the extremely rare Big Love Rocket, dropped by the event-only boss Apothecary Hummel in Shadowfang Keep. Spawning him will require completion of a daily quest, limiting attempts to get this awesome ride, so good luck!

Wowhead's Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning Sweepstakes

By Ashelia on 2012/02/03 at 5:31 PM Pacific

If you visit Wowhead, you're probably like me and you love RPGs. This means you have more than likely heard of the upcoming Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning--an open-world RPG of an immense scale that lets you define your own destiny and story (check out the demo over here, if you're interested). It also means you more than likely want your own copy.

And if that's the case, then I have some awesome news for you.

We have six special edition Reckoning game bundles which include maps, cards, and the game itself to give away at Wowhead this week and next. To top it off, we're giving away a grand prize of a collector's edition of Reckoning which includes everything in the special edition along with some added bonuses: a 12.5" troll figure and a lithograph signed by Ken Rolston! As I'm told, only 700 of these unique sets have been produced, so this is pretty sweet. (So um, think anyone will notice if I win the grand prize for myself?! Kidding!)

We'll be giving them away at 12:01PM PDT next Friday, February 10th, 2012. To enter to win, all you have to do is the following...

Comment in this post and tell me what class do you usually play in RPGs.

Do you find yourself tending to be a caster? Maybe you're always a ranger or rogue type! Let us know what role you're usually filling in RPGs in the comments to be entered to win! Reckoning has a really diverse talent and class system, so maybe you'll even spice things up if you win!

Of course, like any good sweepstakes, we do have some rules and regulations:
  • This sweepstakes is open to anyone, anywhere. ID verification is required to receive the prize, though, so parental consent is needed to receive prizes for those under 18.
  • Users may submit only one entry to be entered to win and are limited to one prize only. We are choosing winners randomly.
  • If you win, the contest page will be edited to include your Wowhead username and you will be contacted via the email address attached to your account.

News Round Up: Mists of Pandaria News Coming Soon, Bug Fixes, And More

By Ashelia on 2012/02/03 at 1:43 PM Pacific

We have a bunch of blue posts from throughout the week for you to read. It's been a busier week than normal, with Blizzard seemingly finally waking up and getting ready to show us the goods! With this week's earlier announcement that a press event scheduled for March, we can only hope February passes as quickly as possible, because I think we're all dying to hear more about those pandas.

And possibly their brews.

With all the recent posts turning focus back to Mists, what do you guys think--when will Mists of Pandaria be released? Do you think we could be leveling this Fall in the new continent...or do you think it will be further off than that? Or hey, maybe sooner?

Mists of Pandaria

I like your thread, Vorps! It's great to see some positive discussion and speculation about where this game is headed. :)

We're definitely very focused on opening the doors a little wider to new ideas to really grasp onto what will make this game as fun as possible. It's 7 years old after all. We're not going to reinvent the wheel in Mists of Pandaria, but we want to introduce new types of compelling content with meaningful reward structures so your progression paths don't feel quite as redundant.

You'll get a captivating story, breathtaking new lands to explore, a wide array of new and awesome good/bad guys (from what I've seen, REALLY awesome), a slew of new dungeons and raids, a new playable race, a new class, many outstanding systems improvements, etc.

We hope these features are more or less to be expected with virtually every expansion. But this time we're also pouring our heart and soul into some really fun new features that'll allow you to progress in slightly less conventional ways.

I get so excited every time I meet with Greg Street, Cory Stockton, Dave Kosak, and Tom Chilton to discuss everything they're working on each week. It's even got me logging into some of the characters I haven't played in a while more often lately, just because I want to be fully prepared to diversify my gameplay and explore different avenues of content on different characters.

I think it's really going to be about playing the game the way you want to play it, without feeling entirely like you're missing out on valuable rewards.

The pandaren mount is still being finalized, so what you’ve heard (or seen) are just rumors at this point. Obviously we want the mount to be something awesome, which will take some time to perfect. In addition to the pandaren mount, expect to see a ton of new mounts in Mists of Pandaria. In fact, if any of the new creatures bein
